    3. Hi Pauline, Thanks for the rapid reply. I have his marriage certificate, dated 24 June 1851 at the Tabernacle Chapel, Ffairfach. He was aged 23 then and his father was down as a labourer. In the 1871 census he gives his age as 44, and was living at Towy Terrace, Pentrecwm, which I believe is Ffairfach. I had found the 1820 baptism, but I wondered if that child had died, and was later replaced by the Edward, born in 1828. This is where the family tales started, as his parents were supposed to have been workers on Golden Grove and Edward was brought up by them. He was literate, an apprentice cabinet-maker and was able to purchase property. According to my grand-father he also had a private income, of sorts, so the stories started from there. It was one of the reasons I started researching my family history, but couldn't find out if the stories were true or not, but it's been a fascinating journey, nevertheless. Happy New Year Ken
