Hi everybody Can I repeat a request I made in January about one of my brick walls. My Grandmother, Elizabeth LEWIS was born about 1873 in Brynamman, Carmarthenshire. Her parents were David LEWIS and Ann GRIFFITHS who were married in Llandilofawr in 1871 Elizabeth married Roger JONES on 29 May 1892 in Llandebie, Carmarthenshire but so far I have not been able to trace Roger who was allegedly also born about 1873 He appeared on the 1901 as a Coal Miner/Hewer aged 27 living with his family at 13 Station Road, Llandebie. The 1911 however showed him as aged 39, a Coal Miner/Hewer living with his family at 49 Harold Road, Tirydail, Ammanford, Carmarthenshire. I have been told that Roger had a sister called Sarah Jane and brothers called Rees and Morgan but I have not been able to find them together on a Census. I have also been told that Roger was wounded in WW1 and that this left him with a shaking arm and head but I cannot find any trace of this either. Roger showed himself as aged 20 when he married Elizabeth in 1892 and stated that his father was also named Roger JONES. Anything you can do to help me find this side of my family would be appreciated. I have taken my maternal grandfather back to 1690 but I just can't seem to make much headway with my paternal grandfather. His name is Roger JONES and when he married my Grandmother, Elizabeth LEWIS of Brynamman on 29 May 1892 in Llandebie, he was a Collier and allegedly aged 20 (ie born c1872). I say allegedly because whilst this ties in fairly well with the 1901 (aged 27) and very well with the 1911 (aged 39 born in the Rhondda, Glamorgan) I have not been able to find a suitable Roger born in Wales c1872? Nor have I been able to locate him on either the 1881 or the 1891. Strangely, I can't find any trace of his father either. He was also called Roger JONES and would have been born sometime before 1852. I have a note of my Grandfather's siblings from a deceased family member's memory but I know nothing more about them other than the fact that Sarah Jane JONES married a James POWELL. The other siblings are Rees and Morgan JONES. Roger JONES (c1872) was wounded in WW1 and he was left with a shaking arm and head as a result. He lived with his wife Elizabeth at 32 Harold St Tirydial, Ammanford until he died around about 1934. I can remember going to that house in the 1940's and being given some of the home made toffee that my grandmother always seemed to have available for us children. Grandmother Elizabeth was well known up and down the Valley for the home made ointments she used to sell. Her most famous one being the burn ointment she sold to the Tinplate and Iron Workers. Hence she was known as Mrs Jones Yr Eli, or Mrs Jones the Ointment. If anyone else knows about or is researching this family I would very much appreciate finding out something more about these grandparents. Peter Jones - now living in Hornchurch Essex
