    3. John GRIFFITHS (my gggrandfather) was born in about 1796. In 1841 Census he was living with David LODWIG age 80 on the LODWIG farm, Wainifor, Llanarthney, Carmarthenshire. John GRIFFITHS and his wife Sarah THOMAS-GRIFFITHS who marry in 7 August 1835 live on the farm the rest of their lives. Their children; Elisabeth, David, Evan and John were born on the farm. In the 1861 Census, is the last time that John GRIFFITHS is listed in the census. In 1881 Census, Sarah THOMAS-GRIFFITHS age 71, is living with her grand daughter, Jane GRIFFITHS age 19. on the Wainifor Farm. Any help with this family or the farm will be greatly appreciated. 2. Mable Goering
    3. Any help would be appreciate in learning more about the ancestors of my gggrandparents John LEWIS, and Mary and Sarah THOMAS who were born in Abergwilly, Carmarthanshire. Sarah THOMAS (my gggrandmother) born in Abergwilli born about 1810 married John GRIFFITHS of Llanarthney, Carmarthanshire and lived in Llanarthney area. In the 1841 census, John and Sarah were living with David LODWIG who is 80 years old on the LODWIG farm In the 1851, 1861, 1871, 1881 Census, Sarah THOMAS and John GRIFFITHS continue to live on the LODWIG farm with their children, Elizabeth, David, Evan, John. This son, my ggrandfather John GRIFFITHS married Eliza EDWARDS in Merthyr Tydfil (John and his brother, David, went probably to work in coal and iron industry) My grandmother, Sarah GRIFFITHS was born in Merthyr Tydfil in 1853 before the family came to USA. John LEWIS born about 1796 married Mary THOMAS born in Abergwilly Rachel, William, Isaac and Mary. Their son William LEWIS married Elizabeth MORGANS in Vaynor Church. and came to USA in 1854. His sisters and spouses came in 1853 and 1854. Rachel and husband David MOSES, Mary and husband _____ WILLIAMS Mabel Lewis-Goehring from KANSAS, USA

    1. John DAVIES of Abegwili - born c1788 died after 1871 census
    2. Bob Buckland
    3. I'm finding it difficult to track John down with any degree of certainty in the earlier censuses. John is my GGG-grandfather he had a son called George. Here's what I know about them running back in time from the 1871 census. In 1871 an 83 year old John is living with George (a 45 year old tailor) and George's family at 8 St. Peter St., Carmarthen. John is shown as having been born in Carmarthen and George is from Abergwili. In 1868 John is described as a farmer on George's marriage certificate. The 1861 census shows John aged 73 living with an unmarried George aged 36 at the Glangwilly Gate House in Abergwili. George is a tailor and toll collector and John's occupation is shown as "profit of lease of Bar" (I think). John's birthplace is now Llanewydd (Newchurch). Now here's where thinks get a bit iffy. In 1851 a 25 year old George, a tailor born in Abergwilly, is to be found on Priory St., Carmarthen, visiting a Susan(?) THOMAS (a 47 year old grocer and something dealer) and her 15 year old daughter Margaret. I also find one John DAVIES, a 62 year old farmer living at Ffynhonlas in Abergwilly with wife Ann (58), and sons David (23) and William (17). John's birthplace has now changed to Abergwilly. Now these are the only farmer John and tailor George of the right ages that I can find in the Carmarthen and Abergwilly census returns. In 1841 I have John (50), again at Ffynnonlas. His family is Ann (45), John (20), Ann (22), David (13), George (10), William (7). Everything fits nicely except for John's place of birth which shifts like Pendine Sands and George's age in 1841. What makes his age all the more wrong is that he should be older than David and therefore they are out of order with what I would expect. I tried looking forward for another match for farmer John in 1861 but without success. I also scanned for another George who might be the right age or a taior's apprentice, again with no luck. I've also looked (online as I'm in Canada) for George's baptism with no real luck). 1. Is anyone researching this same line of the DAVIES family from Abergwili who would like to share information? 2. Anyone got any suggestions as to where I should look next? Thanks, Bob Nepean, Ontario, Canada

    3. One also has to bear in mind that in 1739 the year started in late March, not January first as we do today. Therefore October really was the 8th month. -----Original Message----- From: Dorothy Walker [mailto:walker@gulftel.com] Sent: July 29, 2005 10:47 AM To: CARMARTHENSHIRE-L@rootsweb.com Subject: Re: [Cmn-L] Latin entries in baptismal books Could be the 8 is for the 8th month. bug is puzzling but could be meant to represent August.
