Hi Sandie, I have a book (in Welsh ... :-) ) on the history of Capel Als. If you like, I'll search the book for references to the Hopkins family in the time period you mentioned and translate appropriate sections. I am traveling right now so it may be a week or so before I can get anything to you! My Joseph ancestors were married in Capel Als. Regards, Jim Joseph Monument, colorado, USA Hi List I have been subscribed for awhile but have had my searching on the back burner due to summer. I wonder if anyone knows if there is a web site for pictures in Llanelly of Al Capal(I think that is the correct spelling) My grandmother Elizabeth Coomey(nee Hopkins) and her family attended this church in the early 1900's and I have been told my great grandparents and one of her children are buried there. I just wondered if there is any info on this church on the web. Thank you for any help Sandie Searching: Coomey, Hopkins, Davies

Glyn Hi, Reading your test mails. If you continue too have a problem I am happy to re type your mail and send on. Some times the ISP you use is rejected by the addressee.Tiscai is always refused by my son's ISP. Another problem can be the use of an innocent word or phrase the mail scanner dislikes , However 'Testing 'should get through. .Cheers , Sue in LLantrisant. ***************** ----- Original Message ----- From: "Glyn Williams" <glyn.w@xtra.co.nz> To: <CARMARTHENSHIRE-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Wednesday, August 10, 2005 10:37 PM Subject: [Cmn-L] Testing > Just testing. Hi Pauline, I'm no longer in Caio, only popped down 3 weeks ago, whilst on hols. Would you no if a) anyone has a lookup for 1861 or b) i need to contact archives at carmarthernshire? Regards Helen
I hear you loud and clear Glyn Diana
Hi Pat, Thanks for the reply. You have the right entry in 1881. It's the one in the middle, living at Glanrhyd. It only shows her grandfather. I know this is 100% because I've just returned from Caio and I managed to find a 3rd cousin!!!! I visited the house and the lady who know owns was really sweet. The one on the 1881 is my relative Elizabeth. That is her grandfather. However,...............this is the problem. The lodger 'John Davies' is later put down in 1891 census as living next door at Pantglas and as her 'father' also put down on her marriage certificate. Now I know that lodger can also mean a relative. However, when I went to get a birth certificate for 1874 (this is 100% correct also) I found her grave - the registry kindly advised me that there was only one Elizabeth Davies with father John and although I purchased, it's the other one on your list - not mine. I've been advised by family members that she was illigitamate but having difficulty. My partner thought chase the mother as the same name as her i.e, Elizabeth - 2 reasons, one it was common to be called after your mother and second some relatives thought her mother was also called relative - but these are all hearsay/guesses. I then decided to trace Benjamin (grandfather) to see if that would shed any light - he had 3 daughter, Margaret, Mary and Elizabeth - on one census it should the other child on the 1881 Census (Thomas) living with them with a sister MaryAnn. But because 1861 is missing, I can't marry up. Can you see my problem? Pain isn't it? Regards Helen
Hello Pauline, Thanks for reply. Yes I have them her on 1901 (married), 1891 and 1881. The trouble is she is with a grandfather and grandmother on 1881. The problem is this : on 1881 there also shows another child (since chased and not a sibling, probably a cousin) and then a lodger. This lodger is then shown on the 1891 living with her next door to the grandfather and put down as 'father'. The same name is put down on her marriage certificate. However, although I've since found that 'lodger' could also be a relative, this man is the same age as the grandfather, and when I searched for a certificate with that name as the father, I got only one certificate that wasnt correct. I was advised by the registry office that that was the only one with that father's name and it was from a family I rechecked on the 1881 Census. You can see my problem. Helen
Helen have you found them in 1881.......you only need the mothers first name hopefully to get you started......were they all from Carmarthenshire?
