Has anyone 1891 Census return for Carmarthenshire? If so, would you be willing to lookup the following for me. Thank you. Place : CwmcoldIvor, Llansawel.(Think this might be Talley, Llandilofawr) Person : John Davies, age 68 Regards Helen
Hello, I am new to the list so I hope my request is completely appropriate. I have traced my family back to a man named Morgan Morgan whose birth date is about the year 1760 and whose birth place is Llanfynudd, Carmarthen. I have found a Morgan Morgan who filed a will in Carmarthen in 1822 which could possibly be his, but I have nothing else to go on. First, does anybody have any other information on Morgan Morgan? Can anyone confirm that this will is indeed filed by the Morgan Morgan I described above? Thank you, Michael
It is a pleasure Helen - so many people have helped me!! Diana
If I haven't already done so, can I say a big thank you to Diana for all her help. Very kind of you - and exhaustive work you did on my behalf. I am grateful to you. If I can be of any help back, please let me know. Regards Helen
Thankyou Pauline for the look up.it was quite exciting as I had heard tell of a great Auntie Rach and the shop connection! Hi Helen Not sure of the answer to your question, but each child even if a twin would have their own birth certificate... Where did it take place, if Carmarthenshire I am sure they would check for you.....unsure about other registry offices though..... Hi Pauline, Yes, Carmarthenshire, although they put Caio on Census returns the same no. I found through 1837online was Lampeter, which I believe is Ceredigon? Would you mean asking registrars at Carmarthenshire Record Office? Thanks Helen
Getting doubles, I agree
Just as of a little while ago, I am getting doubles and triples of e-mails to the List. At first I thought it was just the same member and that perhaps they had somehow sent the same e-mail twice. But in looking down through the last dozen or so, I got doubles and triples from another Lister or two, and from Pauline! Is anyone else experiencing this "phenomenon"? Marilyn #3601
Wondered if anyone knew........if twins are registered at birth, do they have separeate GRO indexes? On the off chance, I've looked up both names (boy and a girl) and have found both same month/year with same index no. Do you think it is possible an error or that I have the twins? Thanks Helen
Hello, Pat, Thank you for your quick response to my inquiry. Seems as if I have come up against a brickwall in this search. Would you have any suggestions as to where I may try for more information? Thank you, again, for all the help you have given me. Regards, Jane in Cal.
Hello Jane I'm afraid I do not have an index for 1841 Monmouthshire/Breconshire. Hello Jan - I recently went to Llanelli Breconshire. It is a tiny place just up the hill at the back of Llanwenarth Mons in the Breconshire beacon area. There are about 4 houses and a church there nowadays but it has never been very big. I have one side of my family who were saddlers and farmers from there. Diana
Hello Helen What makes you think that the John Davies, lodger in 1881 census is the same John Davies who is Elizabeth's father? The name and occupation are such common ones that they could be completely different people. Even if he was just a lodger the reporting of his death by Elizabeth's husband in a small community shouldn't be too unusual. If you can't find Elizabeth's birth certificate, have you tried the parish registers for her baptism? Regards Liz -----Original Message----- From: HMC001@aol.com [mailto:HMC001@aol.com] Sent: 20 August 2005 17:29 To: CARMARTHENSHIRE-L@rootsweb.com Subject: Needing Help & Inspiration!! This is going to be a long email.............but I badly need help, guidance, inspiration from all that have been doing this family genealogy longer than me, more likely! OK, firstly I'm trying to find ancestors from my great grandmother. I know she was born 1874 (Elizabeth Davies), in Caio. I recently visited and found her gravestone. However, having died in early 30's getting the certificate will not show birth dates, because I've learnt they were not put down until the late 60's. I know when she married (have certificate). Found her on 1881 Census - this is when the trouble begins. I give it at end of this long note..(bare with me, I'm desperate!). It states that she is granddaughter of head of household. Have researched grandparents. All I can find from census is that the grandparents had 3 daughters and 1 son. On the 1881 Census, it also shows a lodger namely a John Davies. However, I found his gravestone on my recent trip and got his death certificate, and it showed that my Elizabeth's husband was at the death?! She also put this man (John) as her father on her marriage certificate. However, on researching him, he always stayed single, no news on any marriage, and my query is...if he is the father, how come he is very similar in age to the grandfather, as portrayed on 1881 Census??? I thought, ok perhaps he's a brother - but I can't marry them up - the Benjamin was away by 1841 and I cannot place him with John's family, and secondly, why is it put down on 1881 Census that she is the granddaughter of the head of the household, if a) it wasn't true and b) the lodger was later put down on records as the father????? The 1881 Census is correct, on my trip I found a cousin I didn't know I had! He confirmed. I understand you don't always take Census as gospel, but which should I follow - the possibility that John is the father, or rather that Benjamin is the grandfather?????? How are the two men related to Elizabeth???? Last year, I contacted the registry office in Carmarthenshire - they were very helpful, when I tried to find a certificate with John the father and no name for mother, they sent me the only certificate with father John and it was the wrong one! Any advice warmly appreciated. Researcher beginning to pull hair out!! Hello, Pat, Thank you for your early reply to my inquiry. Yes, the 1851 census lists "Llanelly, Glamorgan" as the birthplace of William Edwards on Feb. 27, 1817. Since there is no Llanelli in Glamorgan, would you mind checking the 1841 census for the Monmouthshire/Breconshire Llanelli, and let me know what you find there? I will greatly appreciate this and I thank you for all you do to help all of us. Regards, Jane in Cal.
Pauline, Thank you for your mail.I am going on holiday for three weeks and I do not want to receive mail during that period. How do I cancel. Sorry to cause a problem David
Helen, perhaps they do not tie up, perhaps he was a lodger or a best friend or a cousin.......did not have to be brothers.......have you checked 1841 census??
