    3. Hello Jane - I have finished trancribing my bit of the 1841 Llanelly census now and those were the only two William Edwards in all that I did. Could it possibly be that he was in Llanelly Breconshire. I have ancestors from there and I was fooled for a long time thinking it was Carmarthenshire. Llanelly Breconshire is a tiny place pearched on the side of a hill which I visited a few months ago. Just a thought. best wishes Diana

    3. Pauline, I am not having much luck in sending out general information on my Lewis Family of Carmarthenshire to the list or otherwise. My browser is now opened to the web site for the National Library of Wales. They have or are supposed to have a link to find a researcher close to the library who might be willing to help me with an eyes on project there for my Lewis family. New information has just crossed my desk in the past week. I have found the 1850 census for Fairfield County, Connecticut, USA in it the son of John reports that he was born in the same parish that his father was baptized in years before. His birth would then be about 1813. This makes it more likely than not that his parents John and Sarah were married at this parish. From what I can gather taken from the stone's inscriptions at the cemetery John was born 13 February 1771, from information sent me taken from the NLW his baptism was 15 February 1772 at what appears to be Llandeilo Abbercywyn, Carmarthen, Wales. In the 1850 census just mentioned John who is also calling himself William. Both John and William report that they are married to Cynthia but in different sources. It is she who has the same birth date in both. Again in different sources these men William and John also share the same death date making it highly likely that they are the same person just using possibly first and middle names at different times in their lives. Only the spouse named John is marked on the stone next to Cynthia at Christ's Church Cemetery with the date of death. I believe that we are going to find the John married Sarah in Carmarthenshire at least before 1813 the year given as the birth of their son. They appear to have come to America together. I don't know if they had other children. What I would like is the name of a person close enough to the NLW who could for a fee try to locate John born 1771, Sarah born about 1779, and John who could be using the given name of William was born about 1813. If I can find them I will have some chance for locating a departure date and place to the USA. Ginette Hope these are yours......do you mean a look up for the full information from the baptisms I gave to you...... if you want to see if there is a birth certificate for George you need to contact the registry office......that will be the only place to obtain a birth certificate for him, if he was registered, as it was not law until 1874 to register childrens births..... Perhaps Lemuel was mistranscibed in 1861......try Samuel, Semuel.........the L's and S's were very similiar in records I have found......Was George born in Kidwelly according to 1861 census? keep us posted.....Pauline ----- Original Message ----- From: "Ginette Elliott" <Ginette@marsburg.f2s.com> To: <CARMARTHENSHIRE-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Wednesday, September 14, 2005 11:25 PM Subject: [Cmn-L] Birth Certificate for George Phillips > Hi Pauline > > This is all looking very exciting:-) Going by what you said below, I found > the two brothers Philip and George on the 1861 Census. 3. Hello Pauline, Many thanks for explaining to me how to send messages to the list, (I feel a right idiot) Henry Stuckey Gifford was born in South Petherton in Somerset. His surname was originally Stuckey which he didn't like (so I have been told) so he change to his mothers maiden name Gifford (Hence Stuckey Gifford) As you say it is perhaps best for me to send for a birth certificate. 2. Trevor I'm trying to link a Prosser Thomas family with Cornwall and Glamorgan. I understood from my husband's late aunt who lived in Ystylafera in Glamorgan that Prosser Thomas was the correct surname. I did find though on Pigots 1830 Directory two entries in Lamas Street. Firstly, there's a Daniel Thomas, connected with a frm called Prosser and a separate entry for Prosser & Son again in Lammas Street. I was wondering if your Thomas family were connected. Anna Thomas

    1. Birth Certificate for George Phillips
    2. Ginette Elliott
    3. Hi Pauline This is all looking very exciting:-) Going by what you said below, I found the two brothers Philip and George on the 1861 Census. They were both working as servants for a farmers widow in Llanelli but have had no luck with John, Elizabeth or Lemuel which surprised me. I didn't even contemplate looking for Mary at least until my eye stop spinning! Can you explain please how would I go about requesting a look up in the Carmarthen Archives? Many thanks Ginette >If he was a labourer, this one could be good.......I looked at my >marriage index for John Phillip/s to any Elizabeth there are two >possibilities > >1824 23rd July Llanelly parish church >John Philip and Elizabeth Hugh > >1825 14th October Kidwelly parish church >John Phillips and Elizabeth Lloyd > >unless Elizabeth was his second wife as a big gap between ages of 24 >then down to 10 years old...... > >keep us posted - hope you find the correct birth certificate this time.... > >>>Kidwelly 1851 census dist 2b page 7 sch 29 >>>Lady Street >>>John Phillips head mar 48 labourer born Llanelly >>>Elizabeth Phillips wife marr 45 born Kidwelly >>>Mary Phillips dau un 24 born Kidwelly >>>Phillip Phillips son 10 born Kidwelly >>>George Phillips son 8 born Kidwelly >>>Lemuel Phillips son 6 born Kidwelly >>> >>>When you want a popular name and you know where he was born, go to >>>the local registry office they will ensure that you have the correct >>>certificate with correct father and occupation..... >>> >>>Kidwelly is under Llanelly registry office, but they do not have an >>>official email address yet so if you send to Carmarthen they will >>>find out for you >>> >>>Registrars@carmarthenshire.gov.uk -- Ginette Phillips

    1. SURNAME INTEREST
    2. Jennifer Rapps
    3. Hello to all, Carmarthen listers, I am a new subscriber to Carmarthen mailing list I would therefore like to submit my surname of interest in the hope that someone may be researching the same surname as myself. Henry Stuckey Gifford, On 1901 census RG13 5105 folio 18 page 7. He is living at Red Lion Cottage with Balbina his Spanish wife and 11 of his 15 children. While on holiday in Tenby I spent a few hours at the archives in Carmarthen hoping to find baptism of his children, this I failed to do, do anyone have any suggestion where I can find baptisms other than Llandilo Fawr. I look forward to any help or suggestion. Many thanks to you all in advance. Jenny
