Dear Pauline Is the 1841 census accessible on the Carmarthenshire FHS site just for Carmarthenshire as opposed to the whole of Wales? What is the subscription to join the CFHS? With Thanks Lyn Taylor

Hi Pauline I have found a record with the IGI via LDS in the 1881 Census Would you be able to do a check on the 1871 census to see if the family was there and if any ages - Elizabeth would be 2 approx Elizabeth Morgan born: 01 JUN 1873 Llanfihangel Tallyllyn, Brecon, Wales Parents William Morgan and Elizabeth Source Information: Batch No C081311 dates 1713-1848 Call No 0104475 Prints Call No: 1238710 (Film) _____ Our could you tell me how I could get more details on this record. Would be grateful for some advise on this one. Regards Sue
Hi Pauline, Might be wrong but I think it is every 5 years. The promise of confidentiality and destruction was made at the outset of census taking by the Commonwealth, because if it wasn't confidential people wouldn't complete the details or otherwise tell porkies. The census here is fairly invasive of your private life and are not just simple questions about your family. What could be made of this info if it were held for 100 years escapes me. But your descendants would probably be fascinated. At least we genealogists have made some progress with the last census. Regards. Hi Margaret, They are, I believe, quite prompt. If they said GST exempt - surprises me - then that would be the cost. All prices are to be quoted inclusive of GST and the GST component shown separately. Exempt means no GST ( 10%) applies. GST is basically the same as your VAT - it means Goods and Services Tax. I'll do some checking on Sunday. Regards. Hi Pauline, Statistics, plain and simple. I think it was, with some justification, that there was an absolute promise that details given were under a promise of secrecy and would not be revealed. Consequently, once they were used for statistics they were destroyed. I don't think Genealogy was even on the horizon for the statisticians, it is now thank goodness. Regards. Hello again! my certificate could well be winging it's way to Peterborough in the near future then if they don't want the extra 10%! I'm learning a lot about Queensland administration through this thread of Family History! Thanks again and hope to hear from you if you discover anything.. Hi, I wonder if someone could help me. I recently contacted the Archives Office regarding tracing baptismal records for 2 relatives. They searched the parish indexes for the areas but were unable to locate entries. They think therefore because of this it is likely they were baptised in a Non-Conformist Chapel? Can anyone tell me how I go about finding details for Non-Conformist and also find out if non-conformist would be correct? The details I gave the Archives Office was as follows: Benjamin Davies born circa 1822/1824 in Pencarreg. I only know his father's name was Thomas Davies from Benjamin's marriage certicate and census details. and also a Mary Jones born Caio to parents Harry (Henry) and Mary Jones. On all census, they lived at a place called Tynycoed, Caio, if that helps at all. Mary was born circa 1818-1822. Many thanks. Helen

Hi Pauline, Yes we still have Census I think every 10 years, but when legislation came in re Privacy it basically meant that you couldnt delve into records beyond a certain time eg births deaths etc are also restricted from public access from a certain time, I am in the finance industry and I really only intersted in the act as much as it affects me and my clients. post privacy act when you fill out your census you are protected by the privacy act from predatory marketing, ie people who use this data for marketing so in about 100 years from now we wont have a track record of residency, except for big brother.. Re My ancestors My dillema is lengthy I will forward the email I sent you on 2/10 concerning Joshua Morris amd Elizabeth Thomas b 1810 Hope I have clarified the subject re census info . Hi Pauline, The reason the census details were deleted was the direct result of the Australian Privacy act . simple as that , no doubt the census was a data base that could be exploited to no end ,especially if you were tryimg to track someone down , the electoral rolls are a little more dificult as you have to be over 18 yo to be on the rollbut god knows why we give some of them a vote . Thats my input into this segment. Re Joshua Morris 1810 and Elizabeth Thomas 1810 I have to get back to you when I have time. Cheers to you all Trevor Gerard. Gods Country Gold Coast Queensland
Hi. I found this site interesting to look at. http://www.francisfrith.com Frith online archive photos, maps. Browse by area. Wales, England, Ireland, Scotland. Julia
Hi Pauline, As I said to Margaret, I don't mind lookups but limit any research to what I can conveniently do in the time I have available. I will tell people if I can't do research, by which I mean other than checking indexes, electoral rolls etc. What 1971 Census? Our stupid government has destroyed all the census since 1900 and all we have now are the electoral rolls and directories. In the recent census a question was included seeking to retain the data for future generations. I think it was approved but frankly I don't know - haven't bothered to find out. I will now. Regards. Hi Margaret, I'll have a look next Sunday. I don't mind doing lookups because people do them for me. If I can't do one I can usually point them in the right direction to a suitable web site. For example NSW has all theirs on the web now including the recent additions. I only have the 1788 - 1888 pioneer Indexes for NSW. I have a number of indexes at home including all of Victoria and Pioneer Indexes for all but South Australia. Regards.
