    3. Hello List, I guess I sent my request to the wrong address, so I'm re- submitting it, I hope that's O K. I'm looking for my grgrandfather, all I know is that he lived in Carmarthenshire, His name was John Rees, I don't know his wife's name, He was born around 1823,probably got married in 1844 or 45. They had three children, Ann born in 1845, Morgan born in 1852, and John, I don't know his birthday. I'm hoping they show up in the 1861 census if they had one. Hope you can help, Thanks for trying, Ronald Rees

    3. Hi Pauline, The CRO does have registers for Copperworks school. I visited it 2 years ago and found the actual entry for when I started there. I could have spent all day looking at all the interesting items they had, but unfortunately time was against me. Can't wait to return for another look, and the staff were extremely helpful Hope you get this e-mail, as I sent one a while ago and it was returned as a failed e-mail. I haven't had the heart to type it out again(it takes a long time using 2 fingers) Jenny ----- Original Message ----- From: "Pauline James" <paulinejames@onvol.net> To: <CARMARTHENSHIRE-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Saturday, November 12, 2005 8:35 AM Subject: Re: [Cmn-L] Copperworks School and Higher Elementary School, Llanelli > HI Nancy > > I do not know if CRO have the registers for the one above.....is that the > Copperworks school by the railway station, thats the only Copperworks I > know in Llanelli......they have produced a book on the school..... > > Pauline > > > ----- Original Message ----- > From: "nevans" <nevans@supanet.com> > To: <CARMARTHENSHIRE-L@rootsweb.com> > Sent: Wednesday, November 09, 2005 4:24 PM > Subject: [Cmn-L] Copperworks School and Higher Elementary School, Llanelli > > >> Dear Pauline, >> >> Would Carmarthen R.O. also have school registers etc. for the above >> schools? >> >> >> Nancy (England) >> >> >> >> >> ==== CARMARTHENSHIRE Mailing List ==== >> Carmarthenshire Place Names Database - Looking for a farm etc you cannot >> find - Contact - PeterWihl@compuserve.com - Let him know the name of the >> Farm House etc etc - He will search the Database >> > > > ==== CARMARTHENSHIRE Mailing List ==== > Wales Genealogy CD's for Wales research > http://www.Wales-Genealogy.co.uk > > > > -- > No virus found in this incoming message. > Checked by AVG Free Edition. > Version: 7.1.362 / Virus Database: 267.13.0/167 - Release Date: 11/11/2005 > >

The William Morgan(s) b.( similar date to wife) is a Coal Miner with wife Elizabeth (b. 1829 approx) believed to be a mid-wife. Their daughter Elizabeth was born around 1872/73 have been struggling with this one (plus I have been stupid Elizabeth would not be on the Census in 1871 if born in 72/73.) I do know the family did reside on the borders of Brecon for a while on a Farm somewhere! Is there a anyone on the list with a Brecon Census in 1881 or possibly 1871 to see if parents were together at this time, is Llanfihangel Tallyllyn on the Borders. Sorry to be so stupid on the date given. Does anyone have any suggestions as I think William and Elizabeth Morgan(s) moved around a bit so have not been able to trace birth of their daughter. 1. Re: [Cmn-L] Volk/Folk in Pembrokeshire
    2. Alayne and Glen Jenkins
    3. Hello Pat Many thanks for the informaton provided. I am looking for particular Volk family. It is that of Ann Volk b.1796 Fishguard who married Henry Thomas Ropemaker on 17 September 1816 Fishguard. Ann died c1835 (date not known). I am particularly interested therefore in Volk/Folk in the Fishguard Llanwnda region. Because it is difficult to obtain baptisms for above for the period and region I am resorting to other sources such as wills, deaths etc and hope to have a process of elimination rather than identification. I have some but not all of the marriages below from the IGI so would be interested in those not on the IGI. Hence my query to you. I have also obtained some details of wills from Bill Griffiths who has been very kind in helping with my Volks research. There are two families which are 'possibles' at the moment one is from Llanstadwell. Ann above could be the sister of James and William Volk who were labourers in Pembs Dockyard. Another 'possibility' is the family of Thomas Volk, Newport. But this is merely conjecture. On the Rowlands equivulent names Ffoulkes, Foulkes, Ffowkes, I am not sure that this is the case for Pembs Volks. Bill Griffiths found a 'Folk ap Ieuan'in the 1613 Munster Rolls. It is more likely to be an old patronym of Flemish origin like Jenkins. For those interested in Haverfordwest I'll mention the information you provided me recently regarding W.D. PHillips who is the author of 'Old Haverfordwest'. There is a file on W.D. Phillips at Pembs RO. Record Reference HDX/1009 but I have not had time to visit there yet to find if there is any genealogical information in the repository. Ann Volk above is his maternal grandmother. In short I am trying to map out these various families to possibly identify Ann's family. Any help would be much appreciated. 1. [Cmn-L] Volk/Folk in Pembrokeshire
    2. Pat Powell
    3. Hello Glen According to John and Sheila Rowland in their book "The surnames if Wales" Volk in Pembrokeshire is the equivalent of Ffoulkes, Foulkes, Ffowkes. I had a quick look in the Newport district of Pembrokeshire in the 1841 census and there are 18 people with surname Volk. The oldest is Thomas Volk aged 70 a Farmer . Are you also interested in census details or just the list of data you mentioned? If so I can look up other areas of PEM also - but it would help if you could give an idea of the particular family you are interested in. There are 97 entries against Pem on the IGI - have you seen them? Some pre 1813 marriages are:- Dorothy Volk to Edward Bartley in 1788 in Llanllawer Thomas Volk to Ann Eynon in 1793 in Nevern Mary Volk to David Francis in 1760 in Llanrhian Martha Volk to David Harry in 1764 in Llandeloy Rachel Volk to Harry William in 1765 in Llandeloy Maria Volk to David Jenkins in 1786 in Whitchurch Mary Volk to Peter John in 1750 in St Davids Anne Volk to John Phillip in 1787 in Llanwnda John Volk to Mary Morgan in 1784 in St Nicholas Thomas Volk to Martha Evan in 1763 in Llanrhian William Volk to Elizabeth Murrow in 1738 in Llanrhian Mary Volk to John Davies in 1799 in Llangwm Mary Volk to Edward Meredith in 1723 in Roch Jane Volk to David Morris in 1716 in Haverfordwest St Mary Lettice Volk to Phillip Mullins in 1757 in Hubberston William Volk to Mary John in 1793 in Roch Cheers Pat In message <20051113134937.56984.qmail@web25705.mail.ukl.yahoo.com>, Alayne and Glen Jenkins <jinxs104@yahoo.co.uk> writes >Hello again > >I am interested in obtaining any information on the >above family name between 1700 and 1837 in >"Pembrokeshire". >I understand from the Pembrokeshire lookup exchange >that lookups are available on this list for the >following: >St Davids Diocese Testators Wills Index Database >1564-1858 >South & West Wales Marriage Bonds & Fiats Index & >Abstracts Database 1612-1800 >Is it possible to do a rare family name like this for >these resources. >I appreciate that this is the "wrong" county for this >request but am only following instructions on above. > >Glen Jenkins > > > >___________________________________________________________ >To help you stay safe and secure online, we've developed the all new Yahoo! >Security Centre. http://uk.security.yahoo.com > > >==== CARMARTHENSHIRE Mailing List ==== >I use Wales Genealogy CD's for my research >http://www.Wales-Genealogy.co.uk > -- Pat Powell

    3. Hi Fred/Pauline Yes, have already traced this one unfortunately this is not the family. 3. Hello again I am interested in obtaining any information on the above family name between 1700 and 1837 in "Pembrokeshire". I understand from the Pembrokeshire lookup exchange that lookups are available on this list for the following: St Davids Diocese Testators Wills Index Database 1564-1858 South & West Wales Marriage Bonds & Fiats Index & Abstracts Database 1612-1800 Is it possible to do a rare family name like this for these resources. I appreciate that this is the "wrong" county for this request but am only following instructions on above.
