    1. John LEWIS
    2. Good Morning, I am trying to find early records for a John Lewis who in various census while he was living in Neath, Glamorgan gives his place of birth as St Clears, or Abercowen Llanfihangel. He is always listed as a Draper and his birth year is fairly consistent between 1826 and 1828. He is often employing assistants from St Clears/ Abercowen Llanfihangel with the surname Davies which may indicate some sort of relationship although this is not stated. I have looked at the IGI and find one baptism that might be him, son of William & Maria at a Congregational Church. I am not sure if this would be the right John Lewis since his son David Arthur Lewis was ordained in the Church Of Wales. I would be grateful for any help, with Parish records or the 1841 census, to find out more about John Lewis. Many thanks, Tricia Heseltine, Dorset

    3. Hi Sue Firstly, try asking for a lookup (found on GENUKI, lLANDDEUSANT) on the following giving as much information as you can. It might also be useful to look for burials of THOMAS that identify the farm. SEE BELOW Llanddeusant. BT's for 1775-1815. A private database which includes all baptisms, marriages and burials for the period shown is available for lookups on the South/West Wales Lookup Exchange at http://home.clara.net/tirbach/lookup.html The farm is called 'Cil-gerddan' it can be found on http://www.old-maps.co.uk/ at Grid Ref: 275442,226067 to see it click coordinate and paste in the grid reference. You can also get a modern map and an aerial photo. If the farm was owned or leased by the family for sometime you may be able to trace them through this. Incidentily the farm is still in use see http://archive.thisisthewestcountry.co.uk/2004/09/08/12077.html Where under the pig competition you find this - Gilt or Boar born Jan/Feb 2004. 1st: 27, Judith Harvey, Cilgerddan, Llanddeusant, Llangadog, Carmarthenshire, SA19 9YN Hope this helps. 3. Hello Barb, I do not know if you saw Pauline's reply on the List, where she found a James Rowlands and his family in the 1851 census. I am going with his son John David as my man, so he would have been born around 1844, fingers crossed. 3. Hello Pauline, thank you very much for your fast response. What a lovely lot of threads to follow up. I do not think it is 'my' James, but it could possibly be his mother and father and a load of siblings. Strangely there is no son named for his father. Could perhaps John David be my James David, who grew up to follow his father into the medical profession? I must try and bring them down through the various censii. Thank you again for all your help. Dorothy.

    3. Thank You so much for that. Why didn't I think of the IGI?? I guess having looked for this little village for so long and never found it on the IGI, it never occurred to me that it might now be there!!! There are 2 Thomas Thomas's in the valley at this time although by the look of it, at about the same time. I just have to make sure I have the right one. If anyone has the 1841 census though I would be pleased to have that detail as well. 1. LLewellyn JORDAN
    2. Good Morning, I wonder if there is anyone on the list who might be able to help me find LLewellyn JORDAN on the 1841 census please? In 1851 he is living in Abernant, Aberdare, Glamorgan aged 24 an ostler and says he was born Carmarthen Town. By 1861 his age has gone up by 2 years and he says he is 36 born Llangang? Carmarthenshire, by 1871 he is 47 born Carmarthen and in 1881 57 born Llanwnog? Carmarthenshire. I do not have access to the 1841 census myself and hope that there might be a lister who might have some knowledge of the family. Many thanks, Tricia Heseltine, Dorset
