    3. Hello Pat Firstly I apologise, I have found the certificate for the marriage of John Howell to Rachel Evan. Two lessons learnt, firstly keep better records and secondly, don't take a two year break from FHS!! Sorry again for any work and time you have given to this but I promise to be better organised from here on in. 7th December 1837 John Howell aged 24 Labourer residence at time of marriage Penyback married Rachel Evan aged 22 Servant residence at time of marriage Llanboidy. John's father was a David Howell it reads on the certificate as sailor? Rachel's father was John Evan (weaver). So next wish to trace Evan family from Llanboidy and Howell family, I do have John Howell born 13.11.1813 in Llangan, I am just trying to find Penyback to see if this is near Llangan. Sorry again for any inconvenience caused David

    3. Hello Dave I have a record of the marriage of John and Rachel on Dec 7th 1837 in Llanboisy from the DyfedFHS fiche of births marriages and deaths in the Llanboisy parish register. So I would think it definitely happened. You should be able to buy a copy of the parish register page from the Haverfordwest Record Office for about £1. As it is after July 1837 it will give you all the details from the marriage e.g fathers name and occupation etc. (I only have the date on the fiche) I originally asked you for the marriage details for John and Rachel because I had saved this message you sent to the list in 2003 where you said you already had the marriage certificate as shown below:- "----- Original Message ----- From: Dave Howells Sent: Wednesday, November 05, 2003 6:19 PM Subject: John Howell Pauline wander if you can help, I have from CRO a copy of marriage cert for John Howell to Rachel Evan 7/12/1837 in Church of Llanboidy to the rites and ceremonies of the C of E. but I have been to NLW today and cannot find anything in the BT's what do you think? rgds" Possibly you had a note of the marriage date and thought at the time that it had come from a certificate. Anyway if you send for the parish register entry I would be very interested in the details. What did you think of my comment on Daniel rather than David? By the way in your family details that you sent me you have Benjamin shown as born 1841 - In the 1851 census he is aged & and David is aged 10. 3. HAPPY NEW YEAR to you all, Hello Pat I cannot think where the marriage information came from for John Howell and Rachel Evan. In the 1861 census I have found living in Cottage, River Side, Landdowror John Howell aged 47 agricultural lab born Llangan Rachel Howell aged 45 wife born Carmarthen..... listed are children my line is son John Howell son 10 born Llanddowror In the 1851 census, which I have not seen but Pauline found for me was John Howell aged 39 railway lab born Llangan Rachel Howell aged 34 born Llanglydwen So this information I have recorded, the marriage of John and Rachel (7.12.1837. Lanboidy), I cannot find where I got this info from, I have no marriage certificate. So I will have to pick the line up from here, to clarify this info, first finding if this marriage date is correct and any parent info etc. I cannot think where this marriage info came from, unless Pauline had found this out for me before. I have looked on the 1837 online.com but there is no marriage for above, the only marriage in that qtr is John Howell to Mary Evan Narberth vol.26 page 809 That is the only marriage can it be just a coincidence that a John Howell married an Evan in the qtr I am searching, could the Mary be a mistake or did she take up the name Rachel for some reason? All census rtns and John Howell jnr have her down as Rachel. Also would Narberth be the right district? It is this marriage where I have to go from here, what do you think would be the next logical step to take? Hope this is clear, best wishes Dave

    3. Hello David I seem to remember this query before as I have Howells from Llangan. You did say previously that you had the marriage certificate. Presunably that gives john's father's name and occupation?? I thought I had asked you for all the details - but I can't find any record of it. Can you give me all the details (for both bride and groom and witnesses) and I'll see if I can find out anything for you. Our eldest daughter, husband and family ( 3 children 14,12 and 10) arrive Monday Jan 2 for a month - bedlam ensues. Happy New Year from a very hot and humid Bribie Island. 3. Hello, I would like to find out more information on the LEWIS family on the 1861 Wales census, especially Henry Lewis, age 19 born abt 1842 in Conwil, Carmarthenshire, Wales. In 1861 the family was living in Aberdare, Glamorgan. How can I determine if the father died before the next census? I am trying to find a mother Mary Lewis and son Henry Lewis who probably went together to Pennsylvania, USA just before 1870. He was a coal miner. 3. Hello Gwenda - Thank you for the email. I hope you had a good Christmas. We were all at my son and daughter in law's with my 2 daughters and their husbands and all seven and a half grandchildren - it was a bit chaotic but great fun. I will be transcribing the 50 pages from America in the New Year and I would be delighted if you would be willing to check them for me before I send it to Pauline. I have still not sent the other transcriptions to Pauline yet as I was waiting for the missing ten years first so that it was complete but perhaps I will send it now to ensure no losses - I would hate to have to do it again!! best wishes Diana ps your email addresses seems to be playing up!!

Christmas has rather taken over lately so Family History has been on the back burner for little while, although I did send copies of information I recently received to family members. I promised to give you the ages of John Nicholas and Amelia Shaw,..I don't seem to have any indication of what they would be in the information that I have. James Joseph HATTE I reckon to have been born circa 1858 in Ireland, and his wife 1866 in India. Was it the Nicholas family that you wanted? Have a Happy Holiday Season and Nadolig Llawen i chi! 3. Glad to be of help. Must admit I get more out of the peripheral learning than I do from the ancestral search. Has increased my knowledge of Welsh, British and European history; geography, Welsh language and etymology of place names. Haven't gone down the palaeography route yet, but there are a lot of people interested in it. Rhodri -----Original Message----- From: gaycastle [mailto:castleoaks@comcast.net] Sent: 21 December 2005 18:52 To: carmsman Subject: 1785 Carmarthenshire Will PALEOGRAPHY Thank you, Rhodri, for the URL to the National Archives section on paleography. I have started the interactive tutorial and believe it will be a big help in transcribing the will. I have also purchased a book the National Archives recommends, " Wills and Other Probate Records: A practical guide to researching your ancestors' last documents" by Nigel Taylor and Karen Grannum. The book provides explanations of legal terminology and gives examples of wills. Wishing you a very Merry Christmas and Happy New Year. 3. Hello Pauline, I was thinking the person who wrote the place name down , probably wrote it as it sounded to them hence the wrong pronunciation , I was thinking Llangain? Mary would have been born abt 1824 as she was 18 when she arrived in Tasmania in 1842 As I said I know her parents were Thomas and Elizabeth Davis, then again it could have been Davies . this is so frustrating. 3. Hello Christine I see you have changed your e-mail address. If you remember we spoke about your Howell family early on in the year - about May I think - and you said you were going to send for the death certificate of Francis. Did you manage to get it? I would be interested in the details. I didn't find him in 1841 at the time - but I think I just looked around the surrounding area - I'll try a little further afield.
