Pauline, Many thanks indeed to Carmarthenshire rootsweb for introducing Graham Howell from Ontario to me, who having done his research most consicentiously, and being interested in the tail female of the Howell family from his grandmother, turns out with 88% certainty to be a third cousin whom I have been trying to find out more about for a good many years. This family is a descendant of Gertrude Howell who became a Zanotti, descendant of William Morgan Howell (1839) or a brother. The line that he has presented to me seems with 50% certainty to conclude that the Ffynnon Felin (Llanwinio) link is common forebearance, and that the Howell line of which there are seven male descendants today of William Morgan Howell with the name, (and also male descedants of Zanotti named Howell too who may not be excluded) are an important line of the Ffynnon Felin descent. Three of them live near Aberaeron, ages 2,4 and father James Bonnell Howell 24. I have also suggested that David (Lord) Howell of Guildford, who is the self selected leader of such a family named Howell, and nobly unaware of the genealogy, is also descended quite closely to this illustrious Carmarthenshire family in particular. The Indian civil service link in that family is the closest evidence I can think of for the moment. Not for nothing was Lord Howell foreign secretary in Mrs Thatcher's radical government. I am very grateful to Graham for filling in my aural memories gleaned from my father (1902-1984) Richard Vivian Howell and from my aunt, his sister Mabel m Davies (1894-1993 age99yrs) with written evidence which I hope to publish in good format on my web pages in due course. Constructing a clear tree back to the Ffynnon Felin Howell tree in the Carmarthenshire antiquary Vol XXX11 1996 will be absorbing. Many thanks, Gareth Howell.
Hi All I am still trying to read the town in Carmarthenshire where my DAVID JONES (son of Thomas JONES) was born.in 1817 On the 1851 it looks like: LANDERLOY LANDERDOG LANDERLOG LANDERDOY do any of these look familiar to SKS please? Thanks Eve

Hello list, Can somebody tell me if my gggrandparents David Robert(s) ,who died 07-02-1868 and his wife Mary Robert(s), who died 18-01-1866, had made a will and where to look for it. Know that he owned cottages at ynys Y llyn, Felinfoel. His wife Mary Hugh had them passed on earlier. Elwyn - Netherlands.
Hi Michael Yes there are hardcopies of the publications in the CRO, when you see them you will realise that they would be large files. when you attempt to download these files it will tell you in the bottom left of the window the actual size of the file you are downloading. If you do not have broadband you are going to struggle downloading much of the images and scanned data, but you should be able to access the databases which are available with reasonable ease. with the History of Carmarthenshire, view the indexes first then download what you would like to view rather than try to download the whole lot at once, this goes for the images as well. Hello list, Anybody familiar with Harold Edward Roberts and his wife Julia Rees. Couple married at Felinfoel in 1932. Do not know if they are still alive and if they had children. Father was Edward Roberts living at Ynyswen, Felinfoel, assitent schoolmaster. Also on his brother David Arthur Roberts who married Betty Evans in 1946 at Holy Trinity, Felinfoel. Possibly at 9 Raglan terrace, Felinfoel. Elwyn - Netherlands.

Hi Dave Llangan is the parish next to Henllan Amgoed......if you go to our web site there is a map of Carmarthenshire parishes pre 1830.........on the Pembs border left hand side below Llanboidy is Llangan........ http://www.carmarthenshirefhs.co.uk you can enlarge and download this map - handy to locate parishes of that time..... I can see that Llangan registers are CRO (Carmarthen record office - archives) baptisms: 1768-1793 marriages: 1769-1963 burials: 1768-1794 There are bishops transcripts after 1793......but seem to be sketchy.....christening are on the IGI between 1740-1840.....if you want a complete list for the B.T's let me know... These are the records that are in CRO....... I looked in Parish registers of Wales, and it said Llangan check Pembrokeshire..... so unsure - you would have to contact CRO to see what records they do have for Llangan.... hope this does not confuse you Pauline Happy hunting ----- Original Message ----- From: "Dave Howells" <d.jhowells@blueyonder.co.uk> To: <CARMARTHENSHIRE-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Saturday, January 21, 2006 4:24 PM Subject: [Cmn-L] Llangan > Could anyone explain to me Llangan > When I look up Henllan Amgoed it tells me Parish of > Henllan Amgoed and Llangan in Carmarthenshire and > yes I can see H A on the map but when I do a map search for Llangan it > comes up with Llangan in the vale of Glamorgan? > Can anyone put me straight on this please > thanks > > > ==== CARMARTHENSHIRE Mailing List ==== > Carmarthenshire Place Names Database - Looking for a farm etc you cannot > find - Contact - PeterWihl@compuserve.com - Let him know the name of the > Farm House etc etc - He will search the Database >
Hi Sue I mentioned on both our lists about 2 years ago to look for any Harwoods in Colchester......lo and behold a member who was part of genes reunited put me in touch with the long lost cousin I was looking for (through his grand-daughter).....have not met him but my sisters have I have spoken to him on the phone though......only sad thing my mother thought he was deceased as she had not heard from him.....he is now 83 years old......just over a year too late for my mother to know he was still here. So thanks for the offer - found the John Harwood from Swansea I was trying to find too.......turned up he ended his days in Australia not Cardiff (born in St Thomas Swansea) as we thought !!! They were the ones I was trying to find.....but, yet again, found a long lost cousin in Canada.......our great grandmothers were sisters.......its a small world because of this the internet......I found him because he became a member of CHFS.....he asked me do I know about the Charles family from Burry Port.........YES, my grandmothers sister married one.....and we went from there.... Hi Pat Thanks for that, this is all getting a little frustrating. I notice on the 1851 census, my John Howell is with family living in Llanddowror and has him born Llangan. There is also a Benjamin Howell born Llangan living in Llanddowror aged 16. Hello Dave If you want to look at places in the parish of Llangan (part in Pem and part in Carmarthenshire) on a current map then look for Whitland. Re the Henllan Amgoed records - I have found that most of the birth records only give the name and date and not the parents names - unfortunately as many of mine I think were baptised/christened there. I haven't seen the actual registers but the transcriptions only occasionally show a father's name. One day I hope to look at the actual records and see for myself. Hello Deb I thought you said you had all the census from 1851 onwards - but I've just looked back and seen you have left out 1861. In 1861 Benjamin and family were living in Penquarre in Llanboidy so that would be the name on the death certificate. I'll check out all the details and sent you the full description off list later today or possibly tomorrow.
