Classification: queries Message Board URL: Message Board Post: Dear Worries, I have seen the same questions here from Mexican Ancestors asking how Irish were in Mexico and it all goes back to two or three events - One, the Irish Potato Famine empties much of Ireland (if you had nothing to eat you would probably leave too) and to a greater degree the NW including Co. (County) Mayo and County Sligo -- We researchers often drop the "CO" or "County" as We know the name but it is the actual name of the Counties in Ireland -- so the famine cause mass emigration and Some ended up in Mexico or Texas and into Mexico. Look to Secondly the St. Patrick's Division of Santa Anna's was well known for Bravery - so they ended up with grants or living in Mexico. I do wish Someone would track and list all the CARLON and CAROLANS in Mexico, but the simple answer to your Question was many Irish ended up in Mexico as they did in every other Country in the World !
