Author: Murph_ Surnames: Murphy, Carlon, Hughes Classification: queries Message Board URL: Message Board Post: Hi There V, The Irish roots you are probably decended from, possibly (without more facts, where you are, etc.. it is hard to tell) but many Irish that were fighting in the Mexican American War , follow the below link Many of the Irish were of the Los San Patricios, or "Those of Saint Patrick." I have not done any research on it but as the Carlon or O'Carlon is a common Irish surname it is not outside the possibility one of them were in the unit and stayed and had a family and somehow you are a decendent of them. I am tracking the Carlon surname and it is certainly from Ireland, possibly Co. Mayo, near the Knock Shrine or near Kiltimagh, not sure and maybe I never will be but the name is well documented in Ireland from the Bards of O'Carolan.
