    3. This is in reply to the following message which appeared on the CARLOCK Genforum yesterday. Although I do not have the information to answer Nancy's query at this time, following is a string of correspondence from the archives of this list on the subject of Mary CARLOCK who married Marshfield Smith STEELE, and her family, mentioned in Nancy's query as relatives of the Rachel CARLOCK of whom she is seeking information. Does anyone on this list have any information which may be of help to Nancy? Also, does anyone have any information to prove whether or not Delphiat CARLOCK was the same person as Adolf CARLOCK who appears on page 429 of the book "History of the Carlock Family", by Marion Pomeroy CARLOCK, 1929? According to the book, Adolf (s/o Heinrich "Henry", Juriaen, Conrad) was b. May 17, 1771. Sue Tilleman List Administrator -----ORIGINAL MESSAGE #6----- Source: Feb. 16, 2002, query to the CARLOCK Genforum titled "Rachel Carlock, living in Washington DC 1899" (http://genforum.genealogy.com/carlock/messages/298.html), by Nancy PEXA ([email protected]) "I am seeking the parents of Rachel Carlock or her relationship to Mary Carlock Steele (1800-1897). Rachel Carlock is believed unmarried, worked as a nurse in Massachusetts in imbicile hospital before moving to Washington DC 1899. She is mentioned in the diaries of Elizabeth Steele Wright as cousin Rachel Carlock. Rachel also worked in Dakota on or near an Indian reservation. She corresponded with family in Springfield Ohio and sent a pair of beaded slippers to Mary Carlock Steele. Mary Carlock was m. to Marshfield Smith Steele. They migrated to Springfield Ohio about 1840-5 from Caldwell/Livingston, Essex Co., NJ. Parents of Mary Carlock were Delphiat Carlock (1771-?) and Rachel Dodd." -----ORIGINAL MESSAGE #5----- Date: Sat, 12 Jan 2002 20:33:30 EST From: <[email protected]> To: [email protected] Subject: Index to Carlock in Cragg genealogy database: These Carlocks may help someone. CARLOCK (1848 - 1914) of Alexandria, OH This is in reply to Carol's ([email protected]) query yesterday titled "W. B. Carlock, Jr.". The W. B. CARLOCK you mention could possibly be Washington B. CARLOCK (s/o Washington B. CARLOCK, William GERLACH/CARLOCK, Johannes GERLACH/CARLOCK, Jurian/George GERLACH/CARLOCK, Coenraad/Conrad GERLACH, Hans GERLACH) who is mentioned on pages 423 and 424 of the book "History of the Carlock Family", by Marion Pomeroy CARLOCK, 1929. Washington B. CARLOCK, Jr., was b. Feb. 22, 1848, Sparta, NJ; m. Mary Catherine FENDERBERG, Apr. 17, 1871; and d. Mar. 31, 1914, Alexandria, OH. If the lineage I proposed for Mary in my Dec. 16, 2001, reply to your Dec. 16, 2001, query titled "Delphiat CARLOCK+Rachel DODD", listed below, is correct, then Washington and Mary would be second cousins, once removed. In other words, Mary's great-grandfather Jurian/George GERLACH/CARLOCK would be Washington's gr.-gr.-grandfather. According to my map, Alexandria, OH, where Washington lived, is only a few counties away from Springfield, OH, where Mary lived. Alexandria is east-northeast of Columbus, OH, near Newark, OH, and Springfield is west of Columbus, OH. Mary would have been 47 years older than Washington. Both were born in New Jersey. B. Carlock, Jr. Hello, I would appreciate any data on a W. B. Carlock, Jr. Mary Carlock was the wife of Marshfield Smith Steele, who made his will on the 27th day of February 1868, at Springfield, Clark County, Ohio. One of the witnesses that signed Marshfield's will was W. B. Carlock, Jr. Mary Carlock Steele made her will the 30th of Dec 1897, and W. B. Carlock, Jr. did not sign it. Was he her brother, father or cousin??? Any help is welcome, Carol -----ORIGINAL MESSAGE #2----- From: Susan Tilleman To: [email protected] Sent: Sunday, December 16, 2001 9:44 AM Subject: Henry CARLOCK, b. 1732; m. Margretta, 1761 This is in reply to Carol's ([email protected]) posting today with regard to the ancestry of Mary CARLOCK (d/o Delphiat, Henry), b. Sept. 28, 1800, NJ. I find one probable match for Henry in my database, but I do not show that he had a son named Delphiat. The following information comes from pages 422 and 429 of "History of the Carlock Family", by Marion Pomeroy CARLOCK, 1929. The listing on page 429 appears under the heading "Fragments of Other Pedigrees of New Jersey". Since Conrad migrated to New Jersey, it seems very likely that Delphiat's father Henry is somehow descended from Conrad. Conrad's brother Johann Christian migrated to New York, and his brother David migrated to Virginia. FATHER: Heinrich/Henry GERLACH/CARLOCK (s/o Juriaen/George GERLACH/CARLOCK, Coenraad/Conrad GERLACH, Hans GERLACH) MOTHER: possibly Margretta WANNEMACKER (d/o Adam WANNEMACKER} CHILDREN: 1. Conrath/Conrad CARLOCK, b. June 16, 1764, m. Margreta BANTA. 2. Simon CARLOCK, b. Sept. 10, 1766, m. Maria NAGEL. 3. Henry CARLOCK, b. Dec. 29, 1768, m. Margreta MILLER. 4. Adolf CARLOCK, b. May 17, 1771. 5. George CARLOCK, b. Oct. 1773, m. Elizabeth LOZIER. 6. Matthias CARLOCK, b. Mar. 13, 1779, m. Ruth LUDLOW. Please let me know if you are ever able to make a positive link between the two Henrys.
