The primary families involved in the massacre immigrated into Overton County in 1796 and 1806 from Stokes/Rockingham Co. North Carolina. Richard Fancher, grandfather to many of those massacred died in Overton Co. in 1829 and is buried at Sinking Cane. Names associated with this wagon train from Overton County are FANCHER, INGRAM, CARLOCK, POTEET, SMITH, MILLER (MYLER) BAKER, DUNLAP, SISCO, TACKETT, JONES, MILUM, MITCHELL, RUSH, WOOD to name a few. The migration from Overton County into Arkansas by these families began in 1836 and continued up until the time they left for California in 1857. As I have spent several years trying to document these families from Overton County and how they are inter-related, it seemed to me that story is a legitimate one to many genealogists and a valuable one to descendants still in Overton County.
