This is in response to the following query which can be found in the archives of the Union Co., NC, U.S. GenWeb 1998 Queries at the following URL: http://www.rootsweb.com/~ncunion/union_query98.htm. The text of that query reads as follows: "CARELOCK, BAKER John E. Carelock b 1852 who md Anna Baker and moved to Ga in early 1880's. He was one of 11 children of William A. Carelock b 1818 d 1862 and Beatrice Hamilton. Contact: Catherine B. North - [email protected]" Please refer to the following message which appeared earlier today on the CARLOCK and CARELOCK lists regarding the CARELOCK family of Mecklenburg Co., NC. Information which appears in Patty Barrett Emerson's ([email protected]) Jan. 7, 2001, posting which now appears on the CARLOCK Ancestry.com board matches some of the information which appears in Catherine B. NORTH's above-mentioned Union Co., NC, U.S. GenWeb query. Note that, if the information provided by Patty Barrett Emerson is correct, it appears that on pages 615 and 616 of the book "History of the Carlock Family", by Marion Pomeroy CARLOCK, 1929, the author may have erroneously combined information for Samuel, Sr., and Samuel, Jr., listing the birthdate of Samuel, Jr., as the birthdate for Samuel, Sr. I have contended all along that it seems unlikely that George (s/o Frederick, David, Hans), b. 1740, would not have had any children born before 1785, as the book shows. If, as Patty Barrett Emerson states, Samuel, Sr., (s/o George, Frederick, David, Hans) was actually born in 1763 instead of 1795, this raises the possibility that my direct ancestor, George W. CARLOCK/CEARLOCK, b. ca. 1779, NC, could also be a descendant of George (s/o Frederick, David, Hans). Sue Tilleman http://familytreemaker.genealogy.com/users/t/i/l/Susan-E-Tilleman/index.html?Welcome=996619762 -----ORIGINAL MESSAGE----- From: <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Tuesday, July 31, 2001 12:53 PM Subject: Re: David, Frederick, George, Samuel, Sam Linage This is in reply to Patty Barrett Emerson's ([email protected]) Jan. 7, 2001, posting titled "David, Frederick, George, Samuel, Sam Lineage", which now appears on the CARLOCK Ancestry.com message board. I believe that I may also be descended from David's son Frederick. I have not yet positively identified the connection between my direct ancestor George W. CARLOCK/CEARLOCK, b. ca. 1779, NC, and the rest of the CARLOCK family. George's wife's family was from Mecklenburg Co., NC, where Frederick's family was also known to have lived. The first records I have for this George are in Warren Co., KY. I am very interested in your posting for the following reasons: 1. You say that David GERLACH/CARLOCK, b. 1674, Heidelberg, Germany, m. Anna Marie LISEMUS, 1714, and that Anna was b. ca. 1679, Heidelberg, Germany, and d. ca. 1725. What is the source for this information? 2. You list the middle name of David's son Frederick as "Cornelius", and say that he d. Dec. 1792, and that his wife was b. 1729, Augusta Co., VA. What is the source for this information? 3. You list the birthplace of George CARLOCK (s/o Frederick, David) as Page, VA, and say that he married Fanny Mildred PLEMONS. What is the source for this information? 4. You show Samuel CARLOCK (s/o George, Frederick, David) as having the middle initial of "A." and spelling his surname "CARELOCK". What is your source for this? My maiden name of CEARLOCK is pronounced like "CARELOCK", and I am the list administrator for both the Rootsweb CARELOCK and CEARLOCK lists. All of the information you list from Samuel! on down is new to me. I would be very much interested in your sources for this information, as well as any additional information that you may have for this branch of the family.
