    1. Chronology of my WILLIAM VANCE CARLOCK
    2. K Haddad
    3. There were lots of William Vance Carlocks. Mine is the oldest. Perhaps he was so "famous" that all the others were named after him. One can only Hope! Here is a chronology of William Vance Carlock, whom I believe was the son of David Carlock of Warren Co., KY, because (1) Wm. sold land in Stoddard Co., KY, to John D. Carlock, proven son of David Carlock; (2) Wm. named one of his sons David. There were several William Vance Carlocks. They were probably all named after my William Vance Carlock who was 30-40 years older than them. Those I have found are as follows: *1. b.c. 1795 prob. NC, d.1838-40 Stoddard Co., MO. (mine) 2. b. 1834 MO, d. 1863 LA/MS (son of William Vance Sr.)) 3. b.c. 1830 IL, d. Nov. 14, 1915 Austin, TX (son of Jacob b. Darke Co., OH & grson of Jacob b. Rockbridge Co., VA) 4. b.c. 1840 Missouri, d.1924, Austin, TX (I think he is the same as #3) For many years I thought his mother's maiden name might have been Vance. However, WorldConnect shows 528 men with the first name of William Vance, so it may have been just a popular name at that time. 1810: Probable father David Carlock was on page 276, line 11 of the Warren/Spencer (formerly Logan and Lincoln) Co., KY, census as follows: 1 male 45+ - David 1 male 16-26 - son John D. 1 male 1-16 - son WILLIAM VANCE probably (he m. c. 1820 in MO) 1 female 45+ - Elizabeth Probable sister Mary Carlock with husband Tho's Hefington (m. 1804) next door on line 12 as follows: 1 male 26-44 - Thomas 1 male 0-10 - son 1 female 16-26 - wife Mary Carlock 1 female 0-10 - dtr 1 female 0-10 - dtr Probable sister Margaret Carlock with husband Barney Law (m. 1806) next door on line 13 as follows: 1 male 16-26 - Barnabus 1 male 0-10 - son 1 female 16-26 - wife Margaret Carlock 1 female 0-10 - dtr Future wife of John D. Carlock ~ Polly Gibson ~ on line 21 with father John Gipson as follows: 1 male 44+ - Father John Gipson 1 male 0-10 - son 2 males 10-16 - sons 2 males 16-26 - sons 1 female 45+ - Mother Polly 1 female 10-16 - Polly Probable sister Catherine Carlock with husband James Hendricks (m. 1809) on page 277, line 2 as follows: 1 male 16-26 - James Hendricks 1 female 16-26 - wife Catherine Carlock 1 female -10 - dtr Father-in-law of probable brother George W. Carlock ~ John Landers, father of Rachel Landers ~ was on pg. 279, line 27 as follows: 1 male 26-44 - Father John Landers 1 male 1-10 - son 1 female 45+ - Grandmother? 1 female 26-44 - Mother? 3 females 0-10 - dtrs. 1820: July 1, William Carlick had a letter waiting for him in the post office at Cape Girardeau Co., MO. Philip Dellinger (formerly of Lincoln Co., NC) had a letter for him there also on April 8. [Reference: "Missouri Pioneers" Vol. 3] 1830: Found in census of Cape Girardeau Co., MO, as follows: 1 male 30-39 (1791-1800] William 1 male 0-4 [1826-1830] Unk. prob. b.c. 1826 1 female 20-29 [1801-1810] Frances 1 female 10-14 [1816-1820] Prob. b.c. 1820 1 female 5-9 [1821-1825] Emmaline 1 female 0-4 [1826-1830] Unk. prob. b.c. 1828 Did some of his children die? Missouri was a forested wilderness full of malarial mosquitos then. Too, there was a terrible world-wide cholera epidemic in the early 1830s. 1836: William on first Grand Jury of Stoddard County, MO, which had now broken away from Cape Girardeau Co. [Reference: "History of SE Missouri" Goodpasture, pg. 359] 1837: November 14, William received a patent for 40 acres in Stoddard Co., MO, signed by President Martin Van Buren: South East quarter of the South East quarter of Section One in Township 25 North of Range 10 East [Citation: Jackson, MO, Patent Office, Land Patent 4641, Serial #M03450.211: Image via BLM internet site] **1838: May 26, William V. and Fanny his wife sold to William's probably brother John D. Carlock for $100 the following 20 acres in Stoddard Co., MO: One undivided half of the South East quarter of the South East quarter of Section No One in Township number Twenty five North of Range No. Ten East [Source: Stoddard Co., MO, Deed Bk. A, Pg. 53] **NOTE: It is because of this land transaction that I believe William Vance's father was David, the proven father of John D. Also, William named a son David. The 1810 census above shows that both William V. and John D. fit the male sons. 1840: Not in the Wayne Co., MO, census. Stoddard Co. census too light to read. I hope to get back to MO late next summer to look for Wm's marriage, see where he lived before his first MO land purchase, etc. Katheryn __________________________________ Do you Yahoo!?
