Below is what I have found on the probable family of David Carlock of Mecklenburg Co., NC, and Warren Co., KY. I have listed his two known children and his other probable children based on much indirect evidence: George W. Carlock b.c. 1781, m. Rachael Landers, d.1840-50 prob. Fayette Co., IL Mary H. Carlock b.c. 1784, m. Thomas Heffington Catherine Carlock b.c. 1789, m. James Hendricks Margaret Carlock b. 1789, m. Barnabus Lowe, d. 1840 Jasper Co., TX John D. Carlock b.c. 1795, m. Polly Gibson, lived Missouri *William Vance Carlock b.c. 1797, m. Fannie ?, d.c. 1839 Stoddard Co, MO I have concluded (and it may never be proven) that David Carlock is my William Vance Carlock's father because (1) He sold land in Stoddard Co., MO, to proven son of David, John D. Carlock. (2) He named a son David. Below, now, is my chronology of David Carlock b.c. 1755 NC, m. Elizabeth ?, d.c. 1815 Warren Co., KY: ********************** c. 1789 - Dtr Catherine born (relationship proven on marriage license in Warren Co., KY) c. 1781 - Probable son George born c. 1784 - Probable dtr Mary born c. 1791 - Probable dtr Margaret born 1792: Signed petition against the division of Mecklenburg Co., NC, into more counties. Capt. Chas. T. Alexander's Company included David Carlock. [Reference: Newsletter of Mecklenburg Co., NC, Historical Soceity, pg. 4] 1795: April, Item 1:128, David Carlock recorded purchase of Lot 9, SE Square, town of Concord. Witness John Simianer. Proven April 1796. [Citation: "Cabarrus Co., NC, Court of Common Pleas 1793-1787 and Deed Books 1793-1801", pg. 54] David seemed to be a merchant and/or craftsman, which may account for his sometimes not owning and being taxed for land later on; he could have rented his shop in town. (See 1798 below) c. 1797: Probable son William Vance born 1798: David Kerlock was on pg. 40 of Captain Joseph Smith's Co. tax list with no acreage and one white poll. [Citation: Tax Lists of Mecklenburg Co., NC]. Was David in the process of moving to KY at this time? Or had he decided to just rent a shop in Concord?
