I am the listowner of the new CEARLOCK Rootsweb Mailing List. It is my belief that all CEARLOCKs are descended from David CARLOCK/GERLACH, b. ca. 1679, Palatinate, Germany; migrated to Holland after 1685; in Shenandoah Valley, VA, 1741, and Augusta Co., VA, 1748 - 1763; d. ca. 1763, Augusta Co., VA. Although I cannot yet prove it, I believe that my CEARLOCK line is descended from David's son Frederick; b. 1720, Holland; in Augusta Co., VA, 1747 - 1753; migrated to Mecklenburg Co., NC. I have also found descendants of David's son Hanchrist who have used the CEARLOCK spelling of the CARLOCK surname. Hanchrist was b. 1715, Holland; immigrated to America between 1725 and 1727; in Augusta Co., VA, 1750 - 1752; private in Revolutionary War; in Bath Co., VA, 1782; m. #1 Susan WITMER; m. #2 Sarah WHITMAN, ca. 1764.
