This is in reply to Dolores GREER's ([email protected]) Feb. 8, 2000, posting titled "George Washington Carlock" which now appears on the Ancestry.com message board. I am especially interested in this line since Nancy's father George Washington CARLOCK was a direct ancestor of one of the branches of the CEARLOCK family. I am descended from the other branch of the CEARLOCK family. The family of Benjamin Franklin GROVES and Nancy Helen CARLOCK (d/o George Washington, John, Lemuel, Hanchrist, David) appears on pages 441 - 442 of the book "History of the Carlock Family", by Marion Pomeroy CARLOCK, 1929. The book says that Nancy was b. Aug. 19, 1843; and m. Benjamin Franklin GROVES, Dec. 25, 1864. It says that Mr. GROVES was b. Aug. 15, 1836, and d. Jun 4, 1910. Children listed for the couple are: 1. Kittie George, b. Oct. 13, 1865; d. Apr. 4, 1895; 2. Emily Jane, b. Mar. 7, 1868; m. SKILES, d. Apr. 20, 1899; 3. John Franklin, b. Oct. 11, 1869; 4. Louella, b. Aug., 11, 1871; m. LADD; 5. Sarah Ann, b. Aug. 3, 1873; m. OLIVER; 6. Nancy Eddie, b. Feb. 12, 1876; m. James Sinclair FARR, stock farmer; r. Hermleigh, TX; no children; 7. Rufus, b. Feb. 10, 1878; 8. Luther Thomas, b. Mar. 15, 1882; and 9. an infant male, b. and d. Sep. 7, 1887. Also note that a photograph of Nancy Helen CARLOCK GROVES and her granddaughter Helen Frances GROVES appears on page 439 of the same book.
