If you know your grandfather's place of death you'll have to get his death certificate and hopefully his parents names will be listed on it. I have no idea what your age is but you'll probably also be able to locate death certificates for your great grandparents too... I had to go back to my 2nd grt grandparents before I was able to establish a link. Don't you have any older relatives that you can talk to and find out some more of your family history ???

    1. Ship Passengers ALSO 1783 in Maryland
    2. K. Haddad
    3. Everyone may already have this, but I found the following on the ship "Edinburgh" Sept. 30, 1754. I think List A was for passengers, List B for those who signed oath of abjuration, and List C for those who signed oath of allegiance to Great Britain. They were on all three: HERMAN GERLACH JOHANNES GERLACH I copied the whole list, so if you think you have allied families who came with them, let me know and I'll look. Also, I found in the 1783 tax lists of Maryland the following (the names that follow people I believe are names of tracts). I do not know what the" p" stands for - either page or plat. The numbers divided by slashes may be pounds, shillings and pence, but that is just a guess. I'll bet one of you knows. BALTIMORE COUNTY: JOHN CARBACK: Mollys Garden, 40 acres. 1. Carlocks in MS and AL
    2. Hi List! I'm new. Can anyone help me identify the parents of the following CARLOCK siblings: Roxy Carlock Sarah "Sallie" Carlock William Carlock These siblings are mentioned in an 1868 letter written by my Gr Gr Grandfather. This letter is available online if you should care to take a peak at: http://home.att.net/~littlehouseantiques/mws1868.html I believe that I have identified one of the Carlocks mentioned in the letter, Sarah "Sallie" Carlock. Sarah "Sallie" P. Carlock married William C. Potter on 21 Feb 1877 in Tate County MS. Sarah Carlock is found on the 1880 Census for Coldwater, Tate Co MS, in the household of her husband, W. C. Potter, listed as being age 21 (b 1859) in AL. Also living in the house is Sarah's brother, William CARLOCK, age 16 (b 1864) in AL. Based on the birth date/places for these two siblings, I am assuming that their parents should be found in 1860 somewhere in AL, and that some of the family (perhaps not the ENTIRE family) migrated from AL to De Soto, MS (at least Roxy and Sarah "Sallie" were living there in 1868). If anyone out there researching Carlocks has run across CARLOCKS in AL in 1860 or in MS in 1868, could you please contact me? Thanks in advance for any help, Kathy L. Rhodes Gr Gr Grandaughter of Michael W. Shanahan Gr Gr Grandniece of Sarah "Sallie" P. Carlock & William C. Potter P.S. Would also like to hear from any Carlock researchers whose ancestors were from KY or NJ because the recipient of the 1868 letter was Margaret "Maggie" Anne Shanahan. "Maggie" was a friend of Roxy Carlock and they corresponded with one another. Maggie was in KY in 1868, but she lived most of her life in the Hudson Co NJ area and I'm wondering if perhaps Maggie met the CARLOCK family in either KY or NJ prior to their migration south to AL and MS.

    1. Family of Benjamin Franklin GROVES and Nancy Helen CARLOCK
    2. This is in reply to Dolores GREER's ([email protected]) Feb. 8, 2000, posting titled "George Washington Carlock" which now appears on the Ancestry.com message board. I am especially interested in this line since Nancy's father George Washington CARLOCK was a direct ancestor of one of the branches of the CEARLOCK family. I am descended from the other branch of the CEARLOCK family. The family of Benjamin Franklin GROVES and Nancy Helen CARLOCK (d/o George Washington, John, Lemuel, Hanchrist, David) appears on pages 441 - 442 of the book "History of the Carlock Family", by Marion Pomeroy CARLOCK, 1929. The book says that Nancy was b. Aug. 19, 1843; and m. Benjamin Franklin GROVES, Dec. 25, 1864. It says that Mr. GROVES was b. Aug. 15, 1836, and d. Jun 4, 1910. Children listed for the couple are: 1. Kittie George, b. Oct. 13, 1865; d. Apr. 4, 1895; 2. Emily Jane, b. Mar. 7, 1868; m. SKILES, d. Apr. 20, 1899; 3. John Franklin, b. Oct. 11, 1869; 4. Louella, b. Aug., 11, 1871; m. LADD; 5. 1. Re: Looking for info on Nora Carlock
    2. This is in reply to Kerry STEVENS's ([email protected]) Dec. 13, 2000, posting which now appears on the CARLOCK Ancestry.com boards. I find reference to three Nora CARLOCKs in the book "History of the Carlock Family", by Marion Pomeroy CARLOCK, 1929. They are: 1. Page 572. Nora Belle CARLOCK (d/o Nelson Joseph, John Christian, Moses, Hanchrist, David), b. Jul 24, 1876; m. Hosea Oliver REEVES; residence Huntsville, AR; 2. Page 453. Nora Dell CARLOCK (d/o John Franklin, Winton, Reuben, Abraham, Hanchrist, David), b. Feb. 11, 1876; m. Emanuel E. SALZMAN; d. Jun. 10, 1911; 3. Page 593. Nora Ellen CARLOCK (d/o Jacob, George Maklin, Jacob, Hanchrist, David), b. Sep. 19, 1969; m. Robert Henry HOOVER, 1888; residence Sawtelle, CA. From the information you provided, it is not clear which, if any, of these Nora's was your gg-grandmother.

    1. Re: Carlock in Illinois
    2. There was a William Jackson Carlock who married Hannah Pass. Sept. 8, 1844, in Fulton County, IL. William was the son of Abraham Carlock and Mary Ann Lee. The family moved to Illinois from TN about 1816. There are still Carlock descendants in that area.

    1. Ancestry of Robert R. CARLOCK, s/o Thessaley B. CARLOCK
    2. This is in response to Sharon Lee CARLOCK LEHMAN's ([email protected]) Feb. 24, 2000, posting titled "Carlock Family in Indiana area" which appears on the CARLOCK Ancestry.com Board. The family of Thessaley Boydell CARLOCK (s/o Mahlon Randall, Tunis House, Shedrick, William, Johannes, Juriaen, Coenraad/Conrad GERLACH/CARLOCK) appears on page 428 of the book "History of the Carlock Family", by Marion Pomeroy CARLOCK, 1929. The book lists Thessaley's birthdate as Oct. 22, 1884. It lists his children as Robert R., Vernon, Lewis M., and Cleon. The family of Thessaley's parents, Mahlon Randall CARLOCK and Permitta LEWIS, appears on page 427. A photograph of the Mahlon Randall CARLOCK family of Mt. Vernon, IN, including Thessaley, appears on page 426. The "Aunt Iva" you refer to is probably Thessaley's sister Iva Iona CARLOCK, b. Jan. 7, 1894, who m. Harold O. HAMILTON. Mahlon Randall CARLOCK's parents, brother, and nephews are also pictured on page 426.

    2. Sue, Following are the researchers and their sources as they were sent to me. In addition, for three weeks from June 16th through July 7th of this year, I traveled through several sections of North Carolina and Virginia, (Staunton and Richmond are rich in resources), researching various branches of my genealogy, (I am from Seattle). I have personally viewed several of the documents listed below which proved the information I had collected from the two researchers that follow to my satisfaction. Because the documents I saw were so unerringly presented to me through these ladies, I have every confidence in their accurate depictions of the documents I did not have the opportunity or time to personally view. Wanda L. Clark, 1304 East Miami McAlister, OK 74501 Pam B. Crawford 107 Millpond North Andover, MA 01845 They listed the following sources: 1. "History of the Carlock Family" by Marion Pomeroy Carlock, p., 31-33, p. 436. As you know, the spelling of names, especially foreign sounding (non-English) names was not the forte of census takers, county clerks, church recorders, headstone engravers or even judges. My husband has the Ballou family in his tree with about ten different spellings and 95% of them are related. I think that is why the National Archives have a “Codex” system. If you have any more questions feel free to contact me. I will be happy to share all that I have, after all, what is family all about. Patricia Barrett Emerson
