James Hendricks, Oct 10, 1809 in Warren but I was thinking I had that information will have to check through someother files. The Hendricks are connected to my Whitaker line. Rachel Carlock mar. Jesse Whitaker and her father was John Carlock of Simpson County, mar to Elizabeth, I always thought he could have been connected to the N.C. Carlock's but everyone else has him as son of Lemuel Carlock based on the Carlock book. He was born earlier in 1772 and not 1882 as the book states. The book said he came with his Uncle and implied that he was unmarried but I am sure he was married when he moved KY.as someone sent me two sets of Bible records which fit in with the information I had on him. The Skeen Cem records have his birth as 1772, I suppose they could have been misread but the earlier date seems to fit better. I thought he could have been son of David Carlock, who was not mentioned in the book ! but John D. Carlock who appears on the 1820C was. I have corresponded with others who have found the marriage record and they say that John D. Carlock was given consent for the marriage to Polly Gibson Jan 6 1814 in Warren Co., KY and her father Jacob Gibson gave his consent so both were underage, making him younger than my John. I have the tax lists for Simpson Co., KY and both John Carlock and John D. Carlock were in Simpson. They are not the same person and he is not the son of John Carlock. I think some of the persons I corresponded with thought that Catherine Carlock that married James Hendricks was dau of David but I don't know that any had proof. 3. This is in reply to the following two e-mails which I received today from Curt CHERRY ([email protected]) today. See the following report: http://familytreemaker.genealogy.com/users/t/i/l/Susan-E-Tilleman/GENE16-0001.html I show your wife's gr.-gr.-grandmother Sally CARLOCK who m. Charles ISHMAEL to have the following lineage: Hans GERLACH David GERLACH/CARLOCK Frederick Cornelius CARLOCK probably Henry CARLOCK/CURLOCK/KERLOCK George W. CARLOCK/CEARLOCK Henry Alexander CARLOCK Sally CARLOCK I am also descended from George W. CARLOCK/CEARLOCK. My lineage from George W. CARLOCK/CEARLOCK and Rachel LANDERS is as follows: George W. CARLOCK/CEARLOCK Abraham CARLOCK/CEARLOCK John Henry CARLOCK/CEARLOCK James Robert "Robert" CEARLOCK Joseph Edward "Ed" CEARLOCK Claude Abner CEARLOCK Voris Carney CEARLOCK Rex Duane "Duane" CEARLOCK Susan Elaine "Sue" CEARLOCK Garey CEARLOCK whom you mention is my first cousin, once removed. His father Dale Edward CEARLOCK was a brother to my grandfather Voris Carney CEARLOCK. Garey's e-mail address is: [email protected] The information about Henry CARLOCK/CURLOCK/KERLOCK which links our CARLOCK/CEARLOCK line with the rest of the CARLOCK family is relatively new. So far I can only place Henry between 1782 and 1790 in Rutherford Co., NC. His name also appears in a 1787 Mecklenburg Co., NC, court record where he was awarded money for the orphans of Rachel LANDERS's grandfather Christopher LANDIS. I do not yet have proof that Henry was either George's father or Frederick's son, but all evidence points in that direction. As you may already know, all descendants of George W. CARLOCK/CEARLOCK and Rachel LANDERS are also distant cousins of President Harry S. TRUMAN through Rachel's LANDIS and GOODNIGHT ancestors. See the following report: http://familytreemaker.genealogy.com/users/t/i/l/Susan-E-Tilleman/GENE11-0001.html. See Generation 11, Person 1028 Christian/Christopher LANDESS/LANDIS/LANDYS, and his 11 children. President Harry S. TRUMAN was a direct descendant of Mary LANDIS/LANDERS and Hans Michael "Michael" GUTKNECHT/GOODNIGHT. Furthermore, the Catherine who m. Mary LANDIS/LANDERS's brother Henry, our direct ancestor, is believed to be a daughter of Hans Michael "Michael" GUTKNECHT/GOODNIGHT and his first wife. In the same report, see Generation 11, Person 1030 Hans Michael "Michael" GUTKNECHT/GOODNIGHT, and his 8 children by his first wife. For Harry TRUMAN's lineage, see the following site: http://www.rootsweb.com/~rwguide/presidents/ I would welcome any additional information that you may have to contribute with regard to your line from Charles ISHMAEL and Sally CARLOCK. CARLOCK, William GERLACH/CARLOCK, Johannes GERLACH/CARLOCK, Jurian/George GERLACH/CARLOCK, Coenraad/Conrad GERLACH, Hans GERLACH) who is mentioned on pages 423 and 424 of the book "History of the Carlock Family", by Marion Pomeroy CARLOCK, 1929. Washington B. CARLOCK, Jr., was b. Feb. 22, 1848, Sparta, NJ; m. Mary Catherine FENDERBERG, Apr. 17, 1871; and d. Mar. 31, 1914, Alexandria, OH. If the lineage I proposed for Mary in my Dec. 16, 2001, reply to your Dec. 16, 2001, query titled "Delphiat CARLOCK+Rachel DODD", listed below, is correct, then Washington and Mary would be second cousins, once removed. I would be interested in sharing info with you as a result. I did notice that your web page does not show the second marriage of George's father, Elder Moses Carlock. His second wife was Mildia May Simmons and it was Mildia who was George's mother (shown as such on back of the mariage license of George) She remarried to Thomas Daniel Carlock after Moses died, and if I have followed the connections correctly, this means that George's stepfather was also his cousin. I currently am trying to understand the Carlocks of southern Illinois, and Union County in particular. That gets me back to Eber Carlock. I have not tried to trace things any further but it seems that everybody offers the same lineages, and probably seems that that "Carlock book" is the source. George's daughter Edith was my grandmother. She died about 3 years ago and was a grand lady. My feelings about her are probably best evidenced by the fact that Edith is my own daughter's middle name.

    1. CARLOCKs/GARLOCKs with American Indian ancestry
    2. Susan Tilleman
    3. This is in response to the following e-mail which I received from Winnie J. TATE MORGAN today. She is the second person to have e-mailed me recently inquiring about CARLOCKs with American Indian ancestry. I believe the "Indian doctor woman" to whom you refer was the second wife of Johann Christian GERLACH/CARLOCK/GARLOCK, b. 1669, Germany, one of three sons of Hans GERLACH and Anna Maria KUMER of Heidelberg, Germany, known to have immigrated to America. (See the following report on my home page: http://familytreemaker.genealogy.com/users/t/i/l/Susan-E-Tilleman/GENE16-0001.html.) According to page 418 of the book "History of the Carlock Family", by Marion Pomeroy CARLOCK, 1929, "Upon his arrival on the Hudson, near Fort Lee, N. J., in 1710, he [Johann Christian GERLACH/CARLOCK/GARLOCK] quickly made plans to found a colony or settlement of his own. Accordingly he went into the Mohawk Valley where he secured the Stone Arabia patent, with others, to 12,700 acres of land. Tradition says that he married a native girl with Indian blood---a woman doctor---and that through his Indian wife he was enabled to more easily secure the Stone Arabia patent with an Indian title." The Sarah MCDONALD, wife of Job CARLOCK (s/o Hanchrist CARLOCK, David GERLACH/CARLOCK, Hans GERLACH), of whom you inquire is mentioned on pages 403, 436, and 598 of the above-mentioned book. I find no mention of her ancestry in the book. I also have not done any research with regard to her ancestry because this is not my CARLOCK line. (I am descended from Frederick CARLOCK, brother to Job's father Hanchrist CARLOCK.) If you have not already done so, you might want to place a query with regard to Sarah's ancestry on either the MCDONALD list (http://lists.rootsweb.com/index/) or the MCDONALD Genforum (http://genforum.genealogy.com/my/). 3. This is in response to the following message which was posted to the Christian Co., IL, list yesterday. See the following report which appears on my homepage: http://familytreemaker.genealogy.com/users/t/i/l/Susan-E-Tilleman/GENE16-0001.html. According to my database, Phoebe CARLOCK was d/o George W. CARLOCK/CEARLOCK, probably Henry CARLOCK/CURLOCK/KERLOCK, Frederick Cornelius CARLOCK, David GERLACH/CARLOCK, Hans GERLACH. However, I show her husband Samuel MILLIGAN's death date and place as Feb. 5, 1910, Christian Co., IL, instead of Apr., 1885, Christian Co., IL. What is the source of the 1885 date? I welcome any additions or corrections to the above-mentioned report. I am a distant cousin to Phoebe CARLOCK. My lineage back to her father George is Susan Elaine CEARLOCK, d/o Rex Duane CEARLOCK, Voris Carney CEARLOCK, Claude Abner CEARLOCK, Joseph Edward "Ed" CEARLOCK, James Robert "Robert" CEARLOCK, John Henry CARLOCK/CEARLOCK, Abraham CARLOCK/CEARLOCK, George W. CARLOCK/CEARLOCK. My father and grandfather were both born in Christian Co., IL, and I still have CEARLOCK and FUNK relatives living in the Pana area. 3. This is in reply to the following query posted by Ronald GOODEN ([email protected]) of Wichita, KS, to the Madison Co., AR, list. Mertie Angeline CARLOCK (d/o Nelson Joseph, John Christian, Moses, Hanchrist "John Christian", David GERLACH/CARLOCK, Hans GERLACH) is listed on pages 572 and 575 of the book "History of the Carlock Family", by Marion Pomeroy CARLOCK, 1929. According to the book, Mertie was b. Feb. 27, 1882, Huntsville, AR; m. Peter Seitz MAXWELL, Dec. 2, 1900; and had 9 children. For further information on this family, see the following report: http://familytreemaker.genealogy.com/users/t/i/l/Susan-E-Tilleman/GENE16-0001.html. At this point I have not yet completed entering all of the information for this line from the book "History of the Carlock Family", but I have entered names and birthdates for all CARLOCKs listed in the genealogy pages at the back of the book (pp. 418 - 631). I have also listed information about Mertie's descendants. In addition to! pages 572 and 575, other page numbers for this family not already listed in the "Endnotes" at the end of the report which contain information about Mertie's ancestors are pages 570 and 571. Also listed below are archived postings describing how to find a copy of the book "History of the Carlock Family". Note that the Madison Co., AR, Genealogical and Historical Society Library reportedly has a copy of this hard-to-find book. CHILDREN: 1. probably George W. CARLOCK/CEARLOCK, b. ca. 1779, NC; m. Rachel LANDERS, Oct. 11, 1805, Warren Co., KY; d. ca. 1862, possibly Montgomery Co., IL. 2. probably 3 daughters born before 1791. It is probable that the three youngest children of Rachel LANDERS's grandfather Christopher LANDESS of Mecklenburg Co., NC, were also living in Henry's household at the time of the 1790 census. One theory is that Henry's wife may have been named Elizabeth and may have been found at a later date in Warren Co., KY. This is from memory. I believe another researcher told me several years ago that there was an Elizabeth mentioned in a Warren Co., KY, deed who could possibly be the mother of George W. CARLOCK/CEARLOCK. Does anyone have any information on this subject? Any help would be greatly appreciated!
