From: Susan Tilleman To: [email protected] Sent: Saturday, August 17, 2002 6:38 AM Subject: Descendants of James Wesley CARLOCK (1855 - before 1931) of Yell and Conway Counties, AR This is in reply to the following e-mail which I received from Louise CRAIN ([email protected]), Aug. 13, 2002. With her help, I have been able to make some new progress with regard to the Petit Jean Mountain, AR, CARLOCKs. However, even though I can now identify Alfred A. (probably Aaron) CARLOCK, b. ca. 1904, AR, as a grandson of James Wesley CARLOCK (1855 - before 1931) of Yell and Conway Counties, AR, I still cannot help her identify which of James's sons was Alfred's father. Can anyone else identify the father of Alfred? Louise is also seeking additional information with regard to James's son Joseph Wesley CARLOCK (1880 - 1950) of Conway, Yell, and Jefferson Counties, AR. Following is the information that I now have with regard to the descendants of James Wesley CARLOCK. I would very much welcome any additions or corrections that anyone may have with regard to this family. James's father, William H. CARLOCK, appears on page 438 of the book "History of the Carlock Family", by Marion Pomeroy CARLOCK. Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/zdH.2ACEB/154.1 Message Board Post: Lisa, I have in my posession a family Bible that may have belonged to Elbert and Sarah--they are the couple listed under the wedding certificate part. It's very old, very faded, but lists a number of people. Sarah was one of the daughters of Drury Singleterry of Walker County GA, and the wedding was held at his home. The bible was given to us by my husband's mother, Barbara Singleterry Smith. Her mother was married first to Francis Ralph Singleterry, and then, according to her records, to a G. Hayden Carlock, and I am assuming that this came to her possession through him and her mother. According to my mother in law, the two husbands were 'double cousins', through both their mothers and their fathers. She's not a real good historian, and she gets a little confused, so it's hard to get clear information from her. I'm accessing the message board at work, and I have been trying to get a good scan on these pages, but so far nothing legible has come out. They're right in ! the center of this very old large parlor type bible, so it's hard to get them flat enough to scan, and as I said, the ink is faded quite badly. I don't know if any of this information helps, but I would be glad to transcribe what's in there and send it to you if you like. Likewise, if you have any information on either the Singleterry or the Carlock side, I would certainly appreciate it. I am having difficulty with the exact link between Francis Ralph and Drury Singleterry, and the Carlock connection might help--say a Carlock daughter that married a Singleterry in the late 1880's or early 1890's?

(See the archives of this list for a list of libraries containing copies of Marion Pomeroy CARLOCK's book.) Am looking for information on Nancy Carlock, born circa 1787. She married George Grimes probably 1802 and raised her family in Eastern TN (Campbell Co.TN ) Nancy Carlock Grimes' children were born between 1803 and 1828. The children married: Moses Yoakum, Polly Fleming, Lucinda Ford, Peter Van Bebber, Joseph Cravens, Ephraim McGlothin, Nancy Young Kincaid, Juliette Rainwater, James Stone, John Thomas and John Yoakum. Her brother was probably Henry Carlock also born in the late 1700's. Henry Carlock had a daughter Barbara Carlock born 1805 in Claiborne Co., TN who married Gabriel Van Bebber in Claiborne Co., TN Does anyone on the list have any of these people in their database??? I do not know her maiden name. I believe her husband was Charles Whitman. They had a son Matthew Whitman b. 1759 in VA he married Katherine Stalnaker. On Catherine's will 1802 she is listed as Catherine Carlock not Catherine Whitman. She left property she owned in Bucks Co. PA to Matthew. Does anyone know what Carlock married Catherine, her maiden name, or how she came by the property in PA? Thanks.
