I am forwarding this information on to the list for Andrea, a new Killick member(please forgive my cut and paste skills). I am quite certain some of this information is recognizable to some of you. Andrea would Love to hear from any family members, or any information on this family. "My immediate family tree is as follows: [SNIP] My dad was Brian who passed away suddenly in 2001 and who the information comes from via a cousin - we found all this and more in his paperwork and never knew he had it. This is why I am trying to carry it on for him! The family were born in Croydon but were moved to Manchester during the evacuation as children in the war and all settled there afterwards as my grandparents felt it was a better place to bring them up - cheaper housing I assume!! Also it was my grandmother's birthplace! I also have another part of the tree going back even further which I know connects directly to two names I have seen on your site Alec Stanley in Canada and another Brian Killick born the same year as my dad 1933 who would be a distant cousin of my dad. Iva did indeed marry a Ferd Miller (or Mueller, originally from the area of Munich in Germany but changed to Miller later because of WWI), but later divorced him when their only child, my grandmother, Dorothy May Loretta Miller (later changed to Hamilton, then to Allen in marriage), was just a toddler. Iva later married Russell Hamilton and had another child named Harold. I am the only grandchild of Dorothy. Of her 3 children, all sons, one, Jerry D, survives today and lives in Indiana. Because my grandmother was raised by Permitta and Mahlon and was therefore very close to them, and because I too was raised by my grandmother and was very close to her, I have heard quite a bit about Permitta Lewis however there was never any mention of a child that died in childbirth or later. In addition, I have a Carlock family history book entitled "History of the Carlock Family and Adventures of Pioneer Americans" from 1929 that lists all of Permitta's children -- but only 4: Thessaley B, Thorsteine Clifford, James Roscoe and Iva Iona. My copy has been marked up by my grandmother to add corrections and later information, but she has not added anything on a 5th child. Kind regards, Leslie Kenny (nee Allen) Hong Kong

    2. Susan Tilleman
    3. Seeking information about David CARLOCK/CURLOCK, b. 1839 - 1840, Bowling Green, Warren Co., KY, or IL. I am attempting to prove my theory that the following two individuals are one in the same. The only source that I have so far for the first set of information is material received from another CARLOCK/CEARLOCK researcher over 20 years ago. I have several sources for the second set of information, but am still looking for corrections and additional documentation. I have recently been in contact with one of the descendants of David CURLOCK of Jefferson Co., IL, who reports the information that David's first marriage took place in Fayette Co., IL. 1. David CARLOCK (s/o Jacob CARLOCK/CARELOCK, George W. CARLOCK/CEARLOCK), mother's name unknown; b. 1838, IL; m. Elizabeth, who was b. 1840, OH. (I am also descended from George W. CARLOCK/CEARLOCK, b. ca. 1779, NC; m. Rachel LANDERS, Oct. 11, 1805, Warren Co., KY; family migrated to Fayette Co., IL; d. ca. 1862, possibly Montgomery Co., IL.) 2. David CURLOCK, b. 1839, Bowling Green, Warren Co., KY; m#1. Rebecca, before 1857, reportedly Fayette Co., IL, divorced, after which she reportedly went to TX with her family; m#2. Elizabeth "Bets" BOOK, Nov. 9, 1858, Jefferson Co., IL (Elizabeth b. 1838, IL, d. Jan. 1910); m#3. Elizabeth Turman HICKS, after 1865; d. Aug. 16, 1906, AR. I would be especially interested in any records showing Jacob to be the father of David. Has anyone found Jacob's family on the 1850 census, perhaps in Fayette Co., IL? Has anyone found a record listing a more exact birthdate or birthplace for David? Any help would be greatly appreciated. 1. Ancestry of Barbara CARLOCK MCBEE, b. 1805, Claiborne Co., TN
    2. Susan Tilleman
    3. This is in response to Message #2 below which first appeared on the TNMEMORIES list Jan. 22, 2003. I do not find Barbara CARLOCK MCBEE, d/o Henry CARLOCK and Sally, b. 1805, Claiborne Co., TN, listed in the book "History of the Carlock Family", by Marion Pomeroy CARLOCK, 1929. Her early birthdate greatly narrows down the list of possible candidates to be her father. A search of my database brings up the following possibilities: 1. probably Henry CARLOCK/CARELOCK/CURLOCK/KERLOCK of Rutherford Co., NC, 1782 - ca. 1800, (probably s/o Frederick, David, Hans). This seems to be the most likely candidate. He was about the right age, lived in the right part of the country to migrate to Tennessee, appears to have left North Carolina ca. 1800, and his line was not included in the book "History of the Carlock Family". If so, this probably means that Henry migrated to Claiborne Co., TN, after leaving NC, and that his wife's name was Sally. To date I had found no records of him after he left NC. Because of where they lived (Virginia and North Carolina), David's descendants were the most likely to migrate to TN. For various reasons, I believe that Henry was probably a son of Frederick not named in the book "History of the Carlock Family". (See Message #1 below.) 2. John Henry GERLACH/CARLOCK (s/o Johannes, Juriaen/George, Coenraad/Conrad, Hans), b. before Mar. 9, 1773. Conrad's line lived in the wrong part of the country to have likely migrated to TN. 3. Henry CARLOCK (s/o Heinrich/Henry, Juriaen/George, Coenraad/Conrad, Hans), b. Dec. 29, 1768, m. Margareta MILLER. Again, Conrad's line lived in the wrong part of the country to have likely migrated to TN. Further research in Claiborne Co., TN, records is needed. Henry appears to be the Henry CURLOCK/KERLOCK found in Rutherford Co., NC, tax records, 1782; Mecklenburg Co., NC, court records, 1787; and the 1790 federal census for Rutherford Co., NC. The Mecklenburg Co., NC, connection leads me to believe that Henry could be a son of Frederick CARLOCK (s/o David), not mentioned among Frederick's children on page 437 of the book "History of the Carlock Family", by Marion Pomeroy CARLOCK, 1929. Furthermore, the 1787 Mecklenburg Co., NC, court record where Henry was awarded money for the orphans of Christopher LANDESS suggests that Henry may be somehow related to the family of George W. CARLOCK/CEARLOCK, b. ca. 1779, NC, ancestor of the Illinois branch of the CEARLOCK (pronounced like "CARELOCK") family, who married Christopher LANDESS's granddaughter Rachel LANDERS, Oct. 11, 1805, Warren Co., KY. The above-mentioned Rutherford County, NC, Deed Index also includes the following listings for a Henry LANDERS. Is this the same Henry LANDERS who was the son of Christopher LANDESS, the father of Rachel LANDERS, and who migrated to Warren Co., KY? Landers, Henry / Green, William / Deed/M-Q/360/1796 Landers, Henry / Hamrick, James / Deed/M-Q/301/1796 Furthermore, page 437 of the book "History of the Carlock Family" lists a Joseph CARLOCK (s/o Lemuel, Hanchrist, David), "b. 1780, in southwestern Va.; emigrated to Tenn. with his uncle, Abraham Carlock, in 1803; later settled in Marion Co.; served War 1812; enlisted as Private Oct. 4, 1814, in Capt. Wm. Dooley's Company, McGrory's Regiment, West Tenn. Militia Inf.; dis. Jan. 4, 1814; wife unknown. Children: 1. James, born 1800; wife Elizabeth _____; wife b. 1810, farmer. 2. Joseph Taylor, b. Oct. 19, 1857, in Walker Co., Tenn.; m. Phoebe Halloway, April 7, 1820." Interestingly, this Joseph's son James also used the spelling "CARELOCK", and the book says that Joseph's son John migrated to Allen Co., KY, and was the father of George Washington CARLOCK (1812 - 1862) who died in Warren Co., KY, and whose son Luther Carel CARLOCK/CEARLOCK was the ancestor of the Oklahoma branch of the CEARLOCK family. At this point I do not have any evidence to connect this Joseph CARLOCK! with the Joseph CARLOCK/CARELOCK mentioned in the Rutherford Co., NC, 1797 land grant and 1800 deed. Any additional information with regard to the Henry and Joseph CARLOCK/CARELOCK mentioned in the Rutherford Co., NC, 1797 land grants and 1798, 1800, and 1803 deeds would be greatly appreciated. Last night before writing you, I checked the following censuses through www.censuslinks.com for Carlock, Gerlock, Kerlock: KENTUCKY: Anderson - no early censuses Logan - 1810 census, none Warren - 1810 David Carlock b.c. 1760 or before NORTH CAROLINA: Cabarrus - no early censuses Mecklenburg - 1790, but missed the ones you told me about this morning (thanks) Rutherford - 1790, 1800, 1810, 1820 - none Stokes - 1790, 1800, 1810 - none "David" keeps piquing my interest. My William Vance named his first son after himself (or maybe his father), and his second son David. (His last son was Francis Marion and called himself "Ransom." He, by the way, was b. in Schuyler Co., IL, probably while visiting relatives. But I haven't found the connection.) The John Carlock you mentioned in Cape Girardeau could be the one that my William Vance Carlock sold land to in Cape Girardeau/Stoddard Co. in the 1830s. (a) I have a cousin who lives in NC, and maybe she'll go to the Mecklenburg courthouse for me. Did those in Cabarrus, Rutherford, and Stokes Co. live there a long time before or after 1790? Just curious. (b) With what you gave me on Mecklenburg, I'm going to try to compare nearby residents with those living near my William Vance Carlock in Cape Girardeau/Stoddard Co., MO. I did that for my Wills family in Lincoln Co., NC once, to see if others from PA went with them, and found a bunch. (c) I will go to WorldConnect and see what I can find out about some of his nbrs. in Missouri. (d) Maybe late next summer I'll be in Stoddard Co., MO, and can check some things at the courthouse. Maybe go to Cape Girardeau Co. too. This is all I know to do. After doing (b) and (c) above, I'll put the Carlocks back away and wait until my cousin and I can get to those courthouses. Thanks, as always, for your help. You are an outstanding webmaster. So many of them never provide feedback, so the site goes pretty much dead. But your site is always alive and kicking! Katheryn -----FORWARDED MESSAGE #2----- From: "K Haddad" <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Thursday, January 23, 2003 6:43 AM Subject: {not a subscriber} Censuses Although I usually use www.censuslinks.com for my research, I found your www.census-online.com to be a great backup. I was just now able to bring up the 1830 census of Cape Girardeau Co., MO, on your census-online, whereas it has been down recently on censuslink. I found my William Carlock on page 1. I knew he was there, but the person who copied the census a long time ago and told me about it did not write down the ages. I am also writing down the names of the neighbors so I can trace them on WorldConnect, and also compare them with Mecklenburg Co., NC. Oops! Just looked out the window. Snowing again. It's 6 degrees (that's right, folks, SIX) with a high expected of 9 (you heard me right, NINE). Yes, I live in Canada. But don't you southerners and Californians think we like all this cold. Our forebearers came here to get work (many during the depression or one of the wars), raised their families, the children stayed around and raised their families, and who wants to be very far from family? So we develop a stiff upper lip (Winston Churchill's version of frozen) and stick it out. Katheryn

    3. This is in reply to Katheryn's ([email protected]) e-mail earlier today titled "Carlocks in NC & Cape Girardeau, MO". The following Census Online site is very useful for locating on-line U.S. and Canadian censuses: http://census-online.com/links/index.html . At the North Carolina site, look at the close proximity between Cabarrus Co. (the part of old Mecklenburg Co. where the family of Frederick CARLOCK lived) and Rutherford Co., where Henry CURLOCK lived. See Part I of the 1790 Mecklenburg Co., NC, census at the following site: ftp://ftp.us-census.org/pub/usgenweb/census/nc/mecklenburg/1790/pg0349.txt . See the listing for Frederick KERLOCK on page 366, line 7. Also see Part II of the 1790 Mecklenburg Co., NC, census at the following site: ftp://ftp.us-census.org/pub/usgenweb/census/nc/mecklenburg/1790/pg0367.txt . See the listings for Frederick and George KERLOCK on page 370, lines 40 and 41. Also see the 1790 Rutherford Co., NC, census at the following site: http://ftp.rootsweb.com/pub/usgenweb/nc/rutherford/census/ruth1790.txt?sourceid=00228462925408454246 . See the listing for Henry CURLOCK in this alphabetized listing. Also note Christian GOODNIGHT on page 366, line 16, of Part I of the 1790 Mecklenburg Co., NC, census, living near the two Fredericks and the George KERLOCK. His father Hans Michael "Michael" GOODNIGHT married Mary LANDERS, d/o Christopher LANDIS, as his second wife, and his sister Catherine married Henry LANDERS, s/o Christopher LANDIS. Rachel LANDERS, d/o of Henry LANDERS and Catherine GOODNIGHT, m. George W. CARLOCK/CEARLOCK, my direct ancestor. I have not yet determined George's exact connection to the family of Frederick CARLOCK (s/o David), but, based on age, I believe that George was most likely a grandson of Frederick, possibly through Henry CURLOCK who was living in Rutherford Co., NC, in 1790, or a David CARLOCK who is found in both Mecklenburg Co., NC, and Warren Co., KY. I do not yet have much information on either this Henry CURLOCK or this David CARLOCK. Note that a Henry KERLOCK (probably the above-mentioned Henry CURLOCK) is mentioned in the Aug. 4, 1787! , Mecklenburg Co., NC, court minutes in a case titled "Kerlock & the Landess vs. Joseph Rogers" in which Henry KERLOCK was awarded money for the orphans of the above-mentioned Christopher LANDESS.. A search in my database for the words "Cape Girardeau" brings up some descendants of David (or Daniel?) CURLOCK, b. 1839, Warren Co., KY, who migrated to Jefferson Co., IL, and d. Aug. 16, 1906, in AR. Jefferson Co., IL, and Cape Girardeau, MO, are near each other. David's descendants use the spelling "CURLOCK". I have not yet determined David CURLOCK's ancestry, but we know that the following CARLOCKs were also living in the Warren Co./Allen Co., KY, area, at about that same time: 1. Family of George W. CARLOCK/CEARLOCK (my direct ancestor), b. ca. 1779, NC, who migrated to Warren Co., KY, then to Fayette Co., IL. (ancestor of the larger of the two CEARLOCK lines) George's parents have not yet been determined, but it seems likely that he was a grandson of Frederick CARLOCK (s/o David) of Mecklenburg Co., NC. 2. Family of John CARLOCK (s/o Lemuel, Hanchrist, David), listed starting on page 437 of the book "History of the Carlock Family", by Marion Pomeroy CARLOCK, 1929. (ancestor of the smaller of the two CEARLOCK lines) 3. Family of David CARLOCK, b. before 1766, wife's name Elizabeth. A Catherine CARLOCK who m. James HENDRICKS, Oct. 10, 1809, Warren Co., KY, and a John D. CARLOCK who m. Polly GIBSON, Jan. 6, 1814, Warren Co., KY, are believed to be children of this David. David's ancestry has not yet been determined, but he may have been a son of Frederick CARLOCK (s/o David) of Mecklenburg Co., NC. Let me know if you ever find any additional information to link your William Vance CARLOCK with the rest of the CARLOCK family. If you send me what information you do know about your CARLOCK line, I will add it to my database in hopes of making a future connection for you. 3. This is in reply to a message I received from one of the subscribers to the CARLOCK list yesterday asking where she could purchase a copy of the book "History of the Carlock Family", by Marion Pomeroy CARLOCK, 1929. The following site shows that Higginson Book Company sells reprinted paperbook copies of this 654 page book for $97.50, plus tax if you live in Massachusetts, and shipping costs: http://www.higginsonbooks.com/ . For an additional $12.00 they will provide a hardcover binding. Please let me know if you know of any other sources for purchasing copies of this book.
