Supposedly was of Indian possibly French decent. I have two pictures each with a different name, Evans and Whittington. She had a daughter named Martha Jane Mitchell and I do not know where the Mitchell comes in. Martha Jane married supposedly a Carlock, no first name and they had a child Charles Monroe Carlock bor in Winnfield, LA 1881. Husband Carlock supposedly died and Martha Jane married again, John Bruce and they had a daughter named Nettie Bruce. Husband Bruce died or something and Martha Jane married again. Third husband is William Mason and she had several more children. I assume all of this is around Mississippi and Louisiana since the son of Charles Carlock, my grandfather was born in Bouge Chitta MS. Any info that anyone or if any of this fits your family, please email me at [email protected] Sharon

    3. A search of the Partial Index to Tennessee Death Records 1914-1924, through the following site, produced the following results: http://www.state.tn.us/sos/statelib/pubsvs/death.htm . Note that I was unable to access the records for Shelby Co. at this time. CARLOCK, Charlie Lee, age 36, DOD 1918, McMinn Co., Record #505 CARLOCK, Clara (black), age abt. 85, DOD 1917, McMinn Co., Record #681 CARLOCK, John C., age 59, DOD 1916, Polk Co., Record #162 CARLOCK, Jonas (black), age 27, DOD 1918, McMinn Co., Record #592 CARLOCK, Lakin Dillard, DOB 1854, DOD 1916, Putnam Co., Record #339 CARLOCK, Minnie, age 27, DOD 1919, McMinn Co., Record #672 CARLOCK, Nellie (black), age 8, DOD 1924, McMinn Co., Record #198 CARLOCK, Rosa May, age 21, DOD 1915, McMinn Co., #375 The site also provides information about ordering Tennessee death records by mail. Furthermore, according to the following site, "The Statewide Index to Tennessee Death Records, now in its beginning stages, is a long-term project to index Tennessee death records for the years 1914 on. The index will eventually replace the Partial Index to Tennessee Death Records 1914-1925, which covers only thirty-seven counties in Tennessee, and does not include children under two years of age": http://www.state.tn.us/sos/statelib/pubsvs/tndeath.htm . The statewide index is currently only available for the year 1914 and does not include anyone with the surname CARLOCK. 1. Family of Lemuel CARLOCK (s/o Hanchrist, David)
    2. Susan Tilleman
    3. Seeking evidence whether or not the Joseph (1780 - after 1823) and John (1772 - 1833) listed with incorrect dates on page 437 of the book "History of the Carlock Family", by Marion Pomeroy CARLOCK were actually the sons of Lemuel CARLOCK (s/o Hanchrist, David) who was reportedly killed by Indians. This Joseph roughly fits the description of the Joseph CARLOCK found with Henry CARLOCK/CURLOCK/KERLOCK in Rutherford Co., NC, and Campbell Co., TN, possibly a son of Henry. Henry appears to be a probable son of Frederick CARLOCK (s/o David). According to one researcher, DAR records show Joseph to be s/o Lemuel. According to this researcher, the DAR now requests more evidence than was previously the case, and she is having difficulty finding the proof that she needs. Furthermore, the John listed in the book as Lemuel's son also appears closely associated with Frederick's family. John was living near my CARLOCK/CEARLOCK family in Kentucky, including David, probable son of Frederick (s/o David). Both John's family and my family had some descendants who spelled their surname "CEARLOCK" and some descendants who migrated to Fayette Co., IL. The primary families involved in the massacre immigrated into Overton County in 1796 and 1806 from Stokes/Rockingham Co. North Carolina. Richard Fancher, grandfather to many of those massacred died in Overton Co. in 1829 and is buried at Sinking Cane. 3. This is in reply to Katheryn HADDAD's posting to the CARLOCK list earlier today titled "John Carlock of KY (not John D. Following is the information I have about this family so far, including references: FATHER: John CARLOCK (s/o Lemuel CARLOCK, Hanchrist CARLOCK, David GERLACH/CARLOCK, Hans GERLACH), b. Oct. 1, 1772, southwestern VA; m. Elizabeth; d. Feb. 4, 1833, Simpson Co., KY; bd. Skeen Cemetery, east of Franklin, Simpson Co., KY. Residence: Simpson Co., KY. (This is not the same person as the John D. CARLOCK, s/o David CARLOCK, as both appear on the tax lists for Simpson Co., KY.) MOTHER: Elizabeth, d. after 1845, probably Montgomery Co., IL. Carlock) I am trying to put together a family group sheet for John Carlock who often appeared in the same Simpson Co., KY, tax list as John D. Carlock, proven son of David Carlock of Warren/Simpson Co., KY. Although "the book" says he is the son of Lemuel Carlock of VA, it is speculation. Someone told me that they have something in writing that he came with his uncle David to KY. What was the source of that statement? While in NC recently, I saw that many of the Carlocks did not leave wills. However, I was not in the actual Mecklenburg/Cabarrus Co., NC, courthouses, so do not know if that is actual fact. I was just able to look through numerous books in the historic Salsburg, NC, genealogy library. Anyway, that is all to say that, since not many wills have been found, John Carlock could have been the son of any of David Carlock's brothers. Or John could have been a son of David himself. Since son John D. always went by the name John D., I wonder if they called him J.D., then had another son named John whom the called John. My grandfather gave the middle name of Pink (short of Pinkney?) to three of his children. He just liked the name! Anyway, I need to create a GEDCOM for John b. 1772, d. 1833 Simpson Co., KY. By the way, tho his tombstone says b. 1772, I think he was b. 1770 based on the fact that he was in the Warren/Simpson Co., KY, tax list in 1819. He would have to be 21 years old to be taxed. However, it may be that John D. Carlock added his initial when John (w/o initial) came of age and the two men needed to be distinguished. John D. Always gave his middle initial, even in Missouri. So, back to the GEDCOM, can someone send me your "report" of John Carlock of Simpson Co., KY? listing marriage, children, etc.? Louise Pietrus, his descendant, has already been a great help. Oh, and Louise, what is the name of the family traced to VA that is used for the reasoning that John was the son of Lemuel? He was already in his 40s by this time. I got it from some documentation, but don't remember. So forget I said it! Katheryn
