I was interested to hear that you had a David Carlyle in your family, because I have many in my branch, starting in 1696, but can only find one other in all the hundreds of names I have. I have not yet been able to fit my branch into any of the trees that I have, either of the descendants of John Carlyle, first Lord Carlyle, or his brother Adam Carlyle of Bridekirk ... these are the two main lines I have. There are some George Carlyles, but not quite the right fit for you. You might want to try a Rootsweb List that includes Glasgow... it can't hurt. I will keep in touch and we can compare notes.
