I am trying to locate the parents of Thomas Edward Carlyle. In the 1880 census it was noted that his father was born in Va and his mother in Wales. Thomas (1813 Va - 1897 MO) m 1838 in Richland Co, Ohio, Caroline Lynde (1814 Pa - c1853 MO). Thomas & Caroline were in Livingston County, Missouri by 1840 and were still there in 1850. It is thought that they moved to Lafayette County, Missouri before 1853 where Caroline died and Thomas gave his two youngest children to a kind childless couple, John and Jane Winfrey, to raise. In 1856 he married the widow Alice Chichester (b 1812 Va). They were in Lafayette County in 1860 and 1870. Alice probably died before 1880, because in 1880 Thomas is living with his son William Carlyle in Johnson County, Missouri where he remained until his death in 1897. Family tradition states that the siblings of Thomas were: David Carlyle who went to Texas, George Washington Carlyle, Lafayette Carlyle, and Mary Jane Carlyle who married David Legg and went to Tenn The children of Thomas Edward and Caroline (Lynde) Carlyle were: Infant Daughter b ca 1839 David A. Carlyle b 1840 MO, to Montana Mary Catherine Carlyle b 1843 m Wesley Johnson Minerva Carlyle b 1845, died young William Warner Carlyle b 1848 m Rutha Jane Williams Lydia Jane Carlyle b 1850 m William Everett Maness Thomas and Alice (Chichester) Carlyle had no children.
