Have been interested in this NC Carlisle family for a while because my gg-grfather's brother named a son Coleman. It may be a coincidence. But we've hit a brick wall with our line, so it's as good a clue as any in trying to connect farther back. I'm looking for a Martin CARLYLE/CARLISLE b ca 1780-1799. m. Sarah OWENS. place of births & marriage unknown. They were parents of Abraham CARLYLE, b. ca1823 TN; m. Paulina HAMILTON 1844 Hopkins Co. KY d. 1885 Franklin Co. IL. Abraham & 2nd wife Sarah J. ROBERSON WARD named a son John Coleman CARLYLE, b 1870. I believe Abraham was a brother of Wm. CARLISLE b1817 TN, and Samuel CARLILE b 1820 TN. Both mar. in Hopkins, KY and d. Hamilton Co.
