I am descended from William Carlisle (1794-1879) and his wife Eleanor Elizabeth Cooper (1795-1866). They came to the US in 1848 and 1849, respectively, with their children Samuel, Mary Jane (married John W. Cephas), Eliza (married William H. Powell), Sarah, William J., Margaret (married Samuel Rodgers), and Agnes (?). They lived in New Philadelphia, Tuscarawas County, Ohio, and many are buried at the Fair Avenue Cemetery. There are several land transactions in Brooke County, WV, 1814, and in Union and Tuscarawas Counties in the 1830s involving William and James Carlisle.
