    1. Nathaniel Carlisle of Halifax Co NC
    2. Eva J Hall
    3. Would like to know parents of Nathaniel Carlisle (Sr) whose will was proved in Halifax Co NC in 1812. I have found a record of the birth of a Nathaniel in Prince George Co VA to Richard and Mary Carlile but that was in 1720/1. Is this the same Nathaniel who lived to be much older than most of the men in that time? If so where was he between 1721 birth and when I find a deed where he bought land in NC in 1776? Was he married more than twice? And who was his first wife? Need a lot of help with the ancestors of Nathaniel. I have a copy of his will if anyone is interested. Will also share information I have on his descendants. Thank you. Eva Hall

    1. Suggested CARLISLE mail list Projects
    2. Hi everyone, I have been noticing there is very little traffic on the CARLISLE mail list. Other lists I am on have generated a LOT of traffic with some projects. I would like to suggest such an activity for us. Maybe we can find some of our mutual elusive CARLISLEs. If you decide to act on this suggestion PLEASE put enough info in the subject line to help those with very limited computer time to sift thru the messages without having to scan every post and possibly missing a connection. Having to sift thru a lot of messages with the same subject line has caused some researchers to unsubscribe from lists, and we do not want to loose anyone. They might be the one with the info to break thru our brickwalls. Suggested project #1 State/name of your CARLISLE ie: subject line: Tx/William Hastings CARLISLE Jr. William "Billie" Hasting Jr. Carlisle b: August 02, 1847 in La (census) / Near 3 Creeks, Union Co Ar (death certificate & Confederate Pension) d: March 04, 1935 in Mullin, Mills Co. Any info about my husband's CARLISLEs listed above will be appreciated. Rena Anderson Pittman

    2. RAP (Pittman) was correct about providing descriptive information in the subject line and I would ask that when providing a narrative of a family, that specifics are given and in some recognizable sequence. Designate who is the husband, wife or child. Provide full names and dates if you have them. Thanks. John T. Manning Here are some of my Carlisles: The various Carlisle/Carlile spellings reflects the spellings on the records from which the material were taken. 1. JOHN CARLILE He married FRANCES TUCKER. He married (2) MARTHA EMILY EMMISON September 10, 1863 in HINES CO. MISS.. She was born July 17, 1836 in HINES CO. MISS., and died May 3, 1918 in TEXAS. Notes for WILLIAM HENERY BREWER CARLILE: Notes: From The History of Lowndesville South Carolina, by: H. A. Carlisle, Arnett is local author and historian of Lowndesville, Abbeville Co. S.C. He has traced the Carlisle's back to their entry from Ireland into the United States. He will soon publish a book on the Carlisle Family. William Henery Brewer Carlisle, a son of John and Frances Tucker Carlisle, was born a few miles west of Lowndesville, South Carolina on November 27. 1833. He was a farmer before moving to Mississippi. The date of his moving is not certain. However, he was a co-executor (along with Daniel E. Carlisle) of his mother's estate. Records indicate that he was acting solely at the time of final settlement of the estate in the summer of 1858. He is later found in 1860 in Miss. William H. B. Carlisle first married in Abbeville County, S.C. Nancy Caroline Manning, born July 3rd. 1831, who was a daughter of Reverend Joseph Elgin Manning and Theresa Clinkscales. Her older sister Mary Jane Manning married her brother-in-law James Harvey Carlisle. They are found in the Hinds County, Mississippi, 1860 Federal Census with two children and having Depot Bottom , Miss. as an address. This place was near Utica, Miss. William H. B. Carlisle was an overseer soon after arriving. Later he became a merchant wagon line owner. Little is known about Nancy Caroline his wife, other than she was a housewife prior to her early death on August 6, 1862 from childbirth. Her child also died and was buried in the same coffin at Chapel Hill Methodist Church Cemetery near Utica, Miss. A Baptist church now occupies the site of former Chapel Hill methodist Church. William H.B. Carlisle moved into Texas where he was engaged in hauling timber from the swamps of Louisana into Texas. In early 1879 an argument arose between him and one of his wagon drivers (a former Abbeville County South Carolina citizen) which resulted in William H.B. Carlisle being shot. He died of pneumonia February 21, 1879. He was buried in a cemetery in Parker County, near Weatherford, Texas. The grave is unmarked. Notes for NANCY CAROLINE MANNING: Nancy Carlile, died as a result of childbirth, on August 6, 1862. The funeral services were held Monday morning at 10 o'clock at the LaGrange church, conducted by the Rev. Wm. Stones, of the Baptist church, and were attended by a large number of sorrowing relatives and friends. The interment was made in the LaGrange cemetery and was in charge of the Woodmen of the World, Titusville Camp No. 141, of which the deceased was a member, the burial service of this order being used, which was very impressive. Mr. Carlile leaves to mourn his loss a wife and large family of little ones, to whom the sympathy of all is extended. Florida Woodmen of the World Monument on the grave.

    3. HI With the name Coleman appearing in a Carlile line there probably is a connection. Unfortunately, I don't have any of your names in my data base. Do you have the names of Sarah Roberson Ward's parents? Perhaps she's the one that is connected to the Coleman's. Did your line have anything to do with the Methodist Church? Quite a few of my line were Methodist circuit riders. If so, you can ask Duke University for any early records they might have. Duke serves as a repository for the early Methodist records. If memory serves me right, there's a $25 fee per name which is returned if they don't find anything. Has the name Glenn showed up in your line? That's another early Methodist circuit rider family which married into my Coleman and Carlile lines. I'm in the middle of moving files from this computer to a new one or I would send you my early Carlile outline. I can't stand it -- I'll type in the first couple of generations the hard way. 3. Debbie, Go to Family Tree Maker's Web site. They have a form to fill out requesting the submitter info. It's free. They do require the number from the center of the CD -- just to make sure that you are the actual owner of the CD. I usually get the submitter's name, address and hopefully e-mail address back in less than 24 hours. I've made some valuable contacts and gotten a lot of extra information this way. Good luck! 3. Hello everyone, I was looking back over some old notes and someone had sent me to check out FTM's World Family Trees Vol 2 #3215. There is a Clinton S. Carlisle listed with his father as William J. Carlisle, mother Mattie. This could fit into what I have. There seems to be alot of WFT's est dates, and unknown information. I found what looks like the same family also listed on someone's site. My question is without posting this tree to the list, does anyone know how I might could get ahold of the person who submitted it to FTM? It shows the Carlisle family coming from Irland to Alabama, Perry, Dallas, Lee and some other Alabama counties. It does show Middleton family records as the source. any ideas? Debbie

    2. I have Carlile ancestors with a mystery. David Carlile, wife Ann Gladdell, emmigrated from England to New York, she a commoner and he a member of the gentry, whose family disowned him because of his relationship with Ann. In his anger, David came to America and changed his name to Carlile to distance from his family forever. I have not done any serious research on this line yet - thought I would try the Gladdell line to see what turns up. I also have Armour connections: Margaret Sophia Armour McDill, daugher of John & Harriet Armour originally from SC who moved to Illinois in 1822. Sophia, as she preferred to be called, was born 7 March 1831 in IL, married my ggg-grandfather, John Wylie Coulter, and died 15 February 1898 in Major County, OK. Any connection for you? Suzanna movinqueen@aol.com Okie by birth, Texan in my heart!

    3. Dear Fred: I was very excited to see your story with the Carlile and Coleman names. Coleman appears frequently in my line. I am attaching the Coleman marrying into the Carlile line for you to take a look at. I couldn't find the names from your story, but perhaps you have others that will match up with my names.
