    3. Hi List. This a simple best wishes to all of those who celebrate the success of the "War of the Rebellion" aka The "American" Revolution on this day July 4th. My British partner and I had an interesting thought or two about the differences in how the British and Americans still view the period But from a Carib/Genealogic perspective it is interesting to reflect how many people in the islands were affected adversely, whether by separation from mainland kin or business associates or by the widespread damage to the sugar trade. Those in bondage suffered greatly from reduced rations. The inexpensive saltfish(from New England or Nova Scotia) so critical to slave food allowances and the cloth(from Britain) were reduced either by interruption of shipping or by economic problems on the plantations related to reduced trade with the mainland colonies(who had been a great consumer of unrefined brown sugar in "cake" form) . Anyway, everyone in the islands felt the change, regardless of status. Some of the French islands benefited greatly by increased trade with "American" ships and merchants. Regards to all of you on both sides of the water Chris Cod C.M. 3. "Ewe" is also a language from Ghana, West Africa. My husband's family speak Ewe. Would that tribal name have anything to do with the people who immigrated to Guiana in centuries gone by?
