Hello all, I'm interested in any information/descendants of Charles William BREBNER who was born in Lucea , Jamaica about 1852. He was a shipmaster who travelled widely and finally settled in Mauritius . >From the Gleaner online I have seen a number of Brebner entries into the 1920s that may well be related to Charles. As well as more details of family that may still live in Jamaica, I'd be interested in any ideas as to whether he took his name from one of the plantation owners or was actually a genetic descendant of one... a tall order! I do know that there was a Dr. William BREBNER, in Jamaica from 1820 to 1861 and he lived in Lucea in 1861.He is the son of William BREBNER and Margaret SIMPSON in Boharm, Morayshire. He would be a likely father... More details: http://www.brebner.com/history/chas_wm_brebner_mauritius.pdf And one final question... if I travel to Lucea in the spring (this Canadian winter is beginning to wear on me!) would I have any problems as a single white (fit and feisty Scottish) man in his mid 50's wandering about the town on this genealogical quest?
