    3. This is wonderful news about not having to order microfilm or fiche from the Mormon Family Centre. Does anybody know when this will all come about. I always hoped that this would happen. 3. Folks, I hate to rain on your parade but it's going to be a long time before we see any Caribbean records digitized. I suggest you take a look at http://www.familysearchindexing.org/fsi-admin/navctrl.jsf?pname=currentProjects which shows where FamilySearch is at present with their digitization projects, i.e. completed projects, ongoing, and upcoming. Back last year I offered to help with digitization of Jamaican records and was told that they had no plans at the time to do these. So, don't give up on the microfilm ... I rather think that we'll be using it for quite some time to come. 3. Alba, don't get your hopes up too soon. Digitizing and posting all the microfilms is going to take some time. The last estimate I heard was several years to digitize the films and they have to get permission from the record holders to post them on the Internet. They are also getting volunteers to sign up as indexers so when they post them they will be searchable. Anyone can sign up to do as much or as little indexing as they have time for. The details and signup site is at http://www.familysearchindexing.org . After you sign up you look through the kinds of records they are currently working on and select which ones you want to help with. Then when you have a few minutes you go to your computer and the program downloads the images and you type the names and data into a spreadsheet-like form and upload it all. You can do as much or as little as you have time for and if you don't get that batch finished, whatever you have done is uploaded and the program sorts out the unfinished part and puts that back in the collection for someone else to finish. They have already completed several big projects and you can see the results now on http://www.familysearchlabs.org/ under Record Search. That's a website where the LDS Church posts new things they are doing in FH. But for some time still, we are going to be looking at microfilms and fiche at Family History Centres. And due to copyright reasons, some of the films won't ever be posted on the Internet and can only be used at FHC's.
