Unfortunately 1767 is twenty five or so years later than the info I'm hoping to find in the Geographic Dictionary.... I do know from Dan Hopkins at the U of MO at KC that a Peter Markoe made an offer on King's Quarter 29 (AKA Spanishtown)in 1744 and that's the only documented date for him I can find. This Peter died 1747 and by 1750 his widow or heirs also owned 21 King's Quarter (AKA Barrenspot) - the plantation owned 1767 by Mathias Ferrall. This is the plantation I was hoping to trace in the Geographic Dictionary ,,,. From what I've heard so far the Dictionary does not trace the owners so it looks as though I should look elsewhere. Regarding Barrenspot, in a booklet published by St. Anne's Catholic Church at Barrenspot, St. Croix, Msgr. Michael Kosak relates the plantation was owned by the Markoes - originally by Peter markoe and his wife, Elizabeth Cunningham. When she died in the late 1770's she left it to her children and it eventually became a McEvoy property via the marriage of Maria Markoe to Christopher McEvoy Sr, The problem I'm having is that in the extensive Markoe histories there is no mention of an Elizabeth Cunningham. Peter Markoe's wife was always listed as Elizabeth Farrell (daughter of Roger Farrell and Elizbeth Fergus).Msgr. Kosak wasn't able to provide his source but assured me it was reliable. It's entirely possible Elizabeth was a Cunningham and that was somehow missed or confused with her marriage to Mathias Ferrall. That is, perhaps born Cunningham, widow of Markoe and then was Mrs. Mathias Ferrall at her death. Her marriage to Mathias, by the way, is found only in Ryberg's "Inhabitants ...." so I can't vouch for the accuracy. Markoes and Cunninghams were related by marriage in 1737 Spanishtown, Virgin Gorda - but nothing about this Elizabeth. A Peter Markoe was member of the Council there at that time but I don't know which one he is. As Elizabeth's and Peter's children were probably born at Spanishtown, Virgin Gorda, I suspect he is the Peter of St. Croix. At any rate, Elizabeth Cunningham is the basic reason I wanted to see the "Geographic Dictionary...." There's a Kuyningham at 36 Printsens Quarter on the 1767 Beck map but I've not been able to trace him, either.
