Markoe, Query the New York Public Library. I am certain they will digitize any Markoe references for you from the book and email them to you. Most likely there will be a fee. Has anyone on the list queried the Royal Danish Archives of late? Any ideas what their fees are? Markoe, I have been following this thread in the hope that I might discover more about the PENNs of Spanish Town, e.g. William Penn was a contemporary of that Peter Markoe - a fellow Council member until William's death in 1736, etc You are probably familiar with the following source, which infers that the Markoes resided on St Croix a little earlier than Peter Markoe of Spanish Town could have done, so I proffer this extract with hesitation: :Profiles of Outstanding Virgin Islanders(Photo) MARKOE, ABRAHAM Patriot St. Croix 1727 - 1806 When George Washington, commander-in-chief of military forces of the American colonies, started on his journey in 1775 to take command of the Continental Army, he was escorted by a militia group known as the Philadelphia Light Horse. In this troop, comprised of wealthy volunteers, was a native-born Virgin Islander, Abraham Markoe. Born on July 2, 1727, he was the son of Pierre and Elizabeth Farrel Markoe and the grandson of Pierre Marcou, a prominent French citizen who reportedly accompanied Count Crequi to the Danish West Indies. It was Abraham who reportedly changed the spelling of the name from "Marcou" to "Markoe. Abraham owned a large plantation and other holdings on St. Croix which he inherited from his father and grandfather.
