    3. That's is a wonderful idea David: I wasn't even aware of that GENUKI page myself! But it would be terrific if we could do something similar for the Caribbean List, though perhaps less elaborate! I have no idea how one would go about setting it up though. Ernest M. Perhaps someone knowledgable about each territory (Barbados, Jamaica, Virgin Islands, Leewards, Windwards etc.) might care to volunteer to prepare a BRIEF summary of what records exist and where, and perhaps some general hints on how to begin West Indies research, so that rather than have to start from scratch each time, Cod would have those files at hand (of course they woud have to be updated from time to time). 3. Ernest, the Caribbean GenWeb page at http://www.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~caribgw/ has lots of good information and links for genealogy in the Caribbean and may already be doing some of what you are thinking about. 3. Elder and Ernest, Could there be new pages with a standardised format added to Caribbean GenWeb - complete with gaps - and then letters to this List or direct to the volunteer could provide more data? Have you heard Colin Jackson (Welsh-born athlete of Jamaican parents) talking of standing on the very spot of his ancestor's first piece of his very own Jamaican land? but Colin first had to find his own line of descent. We need to have it Shown to us how to do that when so much is well- known but not obvious to the newcomer. THEN we can look at the pretty online pictures (or visit) and be sentimental. First we need to find how and where we individually fit in. You can listen to Colin here: <http://www.nationalarchives.gov.uk/podcast/colin-jackson.mp3> This might also be of interest to Listers though it leads away from the Caribbean to Roanoke: The Road to Jamestown - part 1 Sean Cunningham talks about how and why English sailors and the English crown turned their attention to the New World of America in the sixteenth century. This talk explores how piracy, greed, religion and warfare became the foundations of Elizabethan attempts to settle America. <http://www.nationalarchives.gov.uk/podcast/jamestown_pt1.mp3?pod=rss> The Road to Jamestown - part 2 <http://www.nationalarchives.gov.uk/podcast/jamestown_pt2.mp3> If the links don't work they are from this podcasts page <http://www.nationalarchives.gov.uk/campaign/podcast.htm?homepage=fom-podcasts > on The National Archives site cheers David On 24 Mar 2008, at 04:57, Snow, Donald R. wrote: > Ernest, the Caribbean GenWeb page > at http://www.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~caribgw/ has lots of good > information and links for genealogy in the Caribbean and may already > be doing some of what you are thinking about. > > Elder Snow
