    3. Hi DaveT, Not knowing how much info you have already gathered, I would suggest you start at the beginning, - your grandchilds birth registration and work backward from there,  no doubt it wiill be tedious but until you get back a couple more generations behind the 'son-in-law' you need to build a factual base from which to work from.   Is there a marriage record to be obtained?  If so apply for that as well.  and the divorce documentation if it is there. Was he born in Britain?  Try the area where he was born, the local paper may have a birth notice relating to him.   Possible the local school may be of help, maybe not, ask anyway.  The worst thing that can happen is they say no.  Gather any and all notices in newspapers, churches etc. I also suggest you have a look through some of the 'stories' online relating to Ainsly Harriot and a couple other celeb's with Carribean heritage.  Who Do you think you are?  www.bbc.co.uk/familyhistory  There are some very useful pointers and tips in their stories. Hopefully you will be able to access the arrival into Britain from the National Archives.  It may turn into a long term exercise, even if you don't finish it you will have a good foundation from which your granddaughter can continue on from when she is older.    and write down as much as you can recall of her father, his build height mannerisms etc, it is all very important to someone who doesn't have memories of a parent, be honest but impartial at the same time.  and photos, if they exist. Good Luck, hope I have been of a little help. Our granddaughter's father was of West Indies origin but we have had no contact with him for more than 10 years.  I would like to trace his parents' births so that she can see that she does have two sets of grandparents and find where that came from.
