    3.   My greatgrandmother's maiden name Ritchie, was passed down as a middle name in our family for both female and male members. My brother bears the name as a middle name but unfortunately it wasn't gtiven to me.   Tony Figueroa --- On Wed, 2/10/10, Phillip Abbott - Abbott Farms <abbottp@candw.ag> wrote: From: Phillip Abbott - Abbott Farms <abbottp@candw.ag> Subject: Re: [Carib] Interesting Middle Nmaes To: caribbean@rootsweb.com Received: Wednesday, February 10, 2010, 6:48 AM Dear Marg , That was a pretty regular practise in those days and not only in the West Indies . 3. This fact is true in my family as well as others here in eastern North Carolina.  Many times in research it has been helpful in discovering the mother's maiden name.  We have William Gibbs Spencer, Thomas Spencer Gibbs as well as William Selby Gibbs.  Also there was a period of time when the names of the famous entered families i.e. Benjamin Franklin Gibbs, George Washngton Gibbs, Alonzo Jefferson Gibbs.  The one that tripped everyone up was R.M.G.M. Gibbs.  It as not figured out until a will was witnessed by a high court official with the name R.M.G. Moore, then thru various other official records all the initials became reality for us.  They had to be creative as we have familes a large as 22 children.   As Always, Geri   --- On Wed, 2/10/10, tony figueroa <tfiggytoo@yahoo.com> wrote: From: tony figueroa <tfiggytoo@yahoo.com> Subject: Re: [Carib] Interesting Middle Nmaes To: caribbean@rootsweb.com Date: Wednesday, February 10, 2010, 6:57 AM   My greatgrandmother's maiden name Ritchie, was passed down as a middle name in our family for both female and male members.
