    3. Hi DaveT, Not knowing how much info you have already gathered, I would suggest you start at the beginning, - your grandchilds birth registration and work backward from there,  no doubt it wiill be tedious but until you get back a couple more generations behind the 'son-in-law' you need to build a factual base from which to work from.   Is there a marriage record to be obtained?  If so apply for that as well.  and the divorce documentation if it is there. Was he born in Britain?  Try the area where he was born, the local paper may have a birth notice relating to him.   Possible the local school may be of help, maybe not, ask anyway.  The worst thing that can happen is they say no.  Gather any and all notices in newspapers, churches etc. I also suggest you have a look through some of the 'stories' online relating to Ainsly Harriot and a couple other celeb's with Carribean heritage.  Who Do you think you are?  www.bbc.co.uk/familyhistory  There are some very useful pointers and tips in their stories. Hopefully you will be able to access the arrival into Britain from the National Archives.  It may turn into a long term exercise, even if you don't finish it you will have a good foundation from which your granddaughter can continue on from when she is older.    and write down as much as you can recall of her father, his build height mannerisms etc, it is all very important to someone who doesn't have memories of a parent, be honest but impartial at the same time.  and photos, if they exist. Good Luck, hope I have been of a little help. 1. Re: [Carib] French records
    2. At familysearch.org, you will find a number of records on microfilm. Go to Library > Place Name > Guiana > French Guiana > Guiana. When you read down the page of a certain reference, click on "For a printable version of this record click here . . . " and you will get a page that has the details you will need to order a particular roll of the film. You can also follow the links for "See also: Suriname." Also wanted to share that in searching for records of the Alsace- Lorraine area (now Germany) in the same time period, it seems when Napoleon arrived, he required what are known as civil registers of each birth, marriage, and death. They were kept, eh, religiously--and separate from church records. You might inquire as well with the French embassy in Washington, asking for someone familiar with France's history in the Caribbean/ South America. Best of luck to you. You may have to make friends with Google translate. 1. Re: [Carib] CARIBBEAN Dig Issue 231- St. Kitts 1690 - 1750
    2. Fallon/Fallin would certainly be an Irish name and in the 1600s Barbados had a large Irish population, mostly deported rebels who were enslaved or "indentured." "Speeches to the dishonor of the King" might be of an Irish nationalist nature. The fact that your Redmond Fallon/Fallin settled in Maryland would tend to indicate that he was a Catholic, since Maryland was officially a Catholic colony founded by the Catholic Earl of Baltimore. I have read that many Irish exiles escaped or 'legitimately' terminated their indentures on Barbados and migrated to the Leeward Islands, which would include St. Kitts, where there were more opportunities (most of the land in Barbados was held by a relatively small planter class). That's my two cents' worth. -----Original Message----- From: Jack Fallin <jakff@astound.net> To: caribbean@rootsweb.com Sent: Mon, Dec 14, 2009 3:37 pm Subject: Re: [Carib] CARIBBEAN Dig Issue 231- St. Kitts 1690 - 1750 Dear Bruce,I have a scatter of references to the West Indies in the 1600s, i.e. Montserrat, Barbados and St. Kitts. Here are the ones for St. Kitts (the earliest, listed below, is before your dates, but you may have seen potential references). My interest stems from my earliest ancestor in Northumberland Co., Virginia (purchasing property in 1641) Charles Fallon/Fallin [the latter spelling became favored from the 2nd generation on]. It seems likely that both my ancestor and a Redmond Fallin who purchased property in Dorchester Cty, Md in 1695 came from Ireland, via the West Indies. 3. Hi Lila and other listers, Have a look at what the British Library has to say on the digitisation of the Grenada records <http://www.bl.uk/about/policies/endangeredarch/ 2009/brown.html>. I first saw this news this week on a very useful Grenada Genealogy blog <http://grenadiangirl.wordpress.com/>, which is worth a visit. Cathy

    3. Dear Bruce, I have a scatter of references to the West Indies in the 1600s, i.e. But, as you can see, my information is very fragmentary -- so any suggestions will be most appreciated. Jack Fallin Walnut Creek, CA WEST INDIES: ST. KITTS: “May 3 1630. Depositions of Dan. I would like to trace his parents' births so that she can see that she does have two sets of grandparents and find where that came from. DaveT
