    1. [Carib] DWI: Free Black census 1831-32
    2. Dante
    3. I wrote about a week ago about some Danish West Indies records available at http://www.footnote.com/ Right now, I’m going through a group of records titled: “St. Thomas Commission for the Registration of the Free Blacks: Register of Free Black Children, 1831–32.” This record is a census of the Free Blacks and contains name, age, religion, place of birth so it is useful information in a population that is sometimes not well represented in the usual records. Some of the downsides of these records are that they are in Danish, there is no index, and some people in the records don't have a last name. If you think you may have ancestors in this records, send me the pertinent information and I’ll see what I can find while going through these records. Dante

    3. Thank you very much for that Laura: I was able to download the PDF file and print out the appendices on the Antiguan families, which is very useful. Cod, you might want to check pages 334-336 (I think) which is on the Codringtons, in case you haven't seen that before. The genealogy is in the Appendix and includes the surnames WARNER, WINTHORPE, BYAM, WILLIAMS, CODRINGTON, MATHEW, MACKINNON, THOMAS, CARLISLE, LAVINGTON, FITZROY, WILLOUGHBY, MARTIN, and FREEMAN. There's also the 1710 will of Governor PARKE. Besides the genealogy, there are numerous chapters dealing with slavery. 3. Happy New Year All, I haven't prepared my end of the year email yet.. too much going on. If possible I would appreciate any Research contact info for Barbados. Here is the STORY: 1. My GGF (Samuel Herbert Pollard)- may have been a Jr., was a born in Barbados Possibly 1860 through 1863. He had a 1/2 sister, Elizabeth Pollard-Welch, married name Welch (who died in Barbados, 1964 or 1965). Samuel's Father and Elizabeth's mother (name unknown) had 4- 6 children. They were legally married. Samuel was I believe the oldest-possibly a jr and an outside child of Pollard. He died in St Lucia.... 1912ish. Buried in Choc Cemetery, St. Lucia. Wondering also if Samuel Pollard he was born in England. Why this twist? Well my Aunt Olive just said that we cannot find any information on his mother. Now if a child of a West-Indian parentage was born in England, the child would have the father's (westindian information) and not be issued an English BC. 2.Do you have online photos of the cemeteries ? 2. Dante
    3. I just wanted to let you know I’ve been looking at records available for the former Danish West Indies (now the U.S. Virgin Islands) that are available on Footnote. http://www.footnote.com/ Specifically, a group of microfilm records from the U.S. National Archives (NARA) are available at this site: M1883 Selected Records of the Danish West Indies, 1672-1917: Essential Records Concerning Slavery and Emancipation. You can access a pdf with a description of these records at www.footnote.com/pdf/M1883.pdf The downsides of these records is the cost (membership for the website) and there is no index for the records dealing with the Danish West Indies. It is a painstaking search through the digitized records and is slower than using microfilm. I’ll post what records I’m going through so listers can put in their requests of names I should look out for. Happy New Year to all! Dante
