Can anyone tell me if there is a mapsite on the Internet where I can locate Borasiri Creek in Guyana. Thanks Tian
Dear Listers, Would like to you get an little update on very recent happenings in my search for our ancestry. Along my father's maternal line, the Taitt family, a cousin that I met on line found and shared with the family documentation from Barbados of the Baptismal records of my g-g-g-grandfather, Henry Taitt, baptised as an "adult" in 1819, a slave at the Foster Hall Plantation in St. Joseph, Barbados. She also found the baptism certificate of his baby son, Thomas Henry Taitt, born a slave at Foster Hall Plantation, mother Clarissa Downes. And she had found before the marriage certificate of Thomas Henry Taitt to Elizabeth Downes in 1853. They already had their children's certificates, and death/burial certificates of these people, etc. Then last week Foster Hall Plantation was put up for sale, and we all jumped at the opportunity, only to receive an e-mail from the Realtors that the owners withdrew the property from the market--such a pity (I mean for us). Through the research of a cousin in Trinidad, and conversations with relatives in Canada, we were ensured of which Taitt line was ours. There are still some Taitt lines that have facial and other features just like this line, but we have not found the connection. I am sure that will come soon. Now I turn to my mother's line also from Barbados, her father, Frederick Grosvenor, b. ca. 1853, son of William Christopher Grosvenor. His siblings are as follows: Joseph Moore Grosvenor, b. 1848, marr. in 1872 to Ellen Ann Elcock,b. 1850 Frederick Grosvenor Daniel Grosvenor (possibly Daniel Christopher Grosvenor, marr. Angelina Wolcott 1877 Bertha Grosvenor, marr a Mr. Sinclair James William Grosvenor, b. 1857, marr 1883 Martha Louise Doyle in St. George. George Grosvenor Noah Grosvenor Simon Grosvenor, and Samuel Grosvenor. My mother, aged 88, remembers Uncle Si and Uncle Sam in Trinidad, one a Headmaster of Belmont E.C. School, and the other a Shoemaker in Dry River, Trinidad. Her father was a carpenter. Any leads would be appreciated. Nevilla E. Ottley Any information on that family would be appreciated. Nevilla E. Michael Thanks for the information which is very usefull. I can add that Peter Ulrich Walløe got a licens to trade in 1852 ( Borgerbrev som Købmand 9.10.1852.) but the rest is new to me. Balata is the sap of Manilkara bidentata and was collected in the wild like rubber. It is most likely that Jabez Schultz had a trading post and a concession to trade with the local Indians in a particular area. The goods were often imported to Guyana by Scots. The trading concessions and land grants were often owned by Scotsmen as well. It would appear that Jabez Schultz's Boviander wife was the daughter of a previous trader and a member of the local tribe of balata gatherers. Living in the area where balata was collected was lucrative but dangerous to health. A local like Schultz may have begun by working with a Scot trader and suceeded because of his perserverance. I have seen in history books that Germany was poorer and that it had fewer opportunities than Britain. When established older British overseas traders found difficulty recruiting their own as clerks they often turned to Germans or Polish Jews. Judging by his age and date of birth his father may have been one or the other of these. Then his mother might be from the families you mention. If you look up the Bovianders the most frequent place they traditionally occured was in mining camps near Indian country. Barakara is in the North West up country. There were many blacks who left the sugar plantations to the newer East Indians becoming itineant gold panners and gemstone miners. Schultz and his Scots associates may have encountered Bovinders. H seems to have marriedone nd tken her to a coastal plantation when he suceeded. On the other hand at times Guyanese also raised Balata for fence posts due to termite resistance. http://www.ibiblio.org/herbmed/eclectic/journals/ajp1883/10-pseudo-gt-perch.html http://www.ibiblio.org/herbmed/eclectic/kings/isonandra.html http://guyana/gwebworks.com/features/zssd.shtml

In February and March new pages were added at http://jamaicanfamilysearch.com. From the 1910 Commercial Directory of Jamaica there are lists of residents and civil servants in Kingston and the rest of the island. Roman Catholic burial records from 1799 to 1804 have been translated and added to the site. There are extractions from Church of England (Anglican) Parish Registers for Kingston, Port Royal, St. Thomas in the Vale and St. Andrew. There are excerpts from the Gleaner for the years 1874, 1875 and 1877. http://jamaicanfamilysearch.com has now been online for 3 years. I hope it continues to be useful to those researching Jamaica. I am in search of the father of the following person: Jabez Schultz, b ca. 1880 Berbice d ca 1969 in Station Street, Kitty, Greater Georgetown. Was a coloured creole with the nickname scotsman creole. Member of Scottish Presbyterian church; lay preacher. Was a manager of a balata plantation, owned land in the village of Ithaca, Berbice. Rebecca Barker, his first wife, was a boviander: amerindian and black. She was from Barakara Canje creek and died before 1924. There are relations to the Briggs and Hinds (e. g. Walvid Hinds, a doctor who lived in New York). Could anybody help me with facts about this couple? Would be grateful for any piece in this puzzle. Is there a chance to get a birth certificate of Jabez Schultz – and where? Christel from Germany
Hello all, Just a word of "THANKS" again to all who responded to the call of cheer for Chris. Unfortunately, I have some sad news. He and I will no longer be in "communication" I guess you would say. His situation right now is just too negative and although he and I have been friends for 4 years, it saddens me deeply. Again, my apologies to the list for off topic subject. I am shutting down his account that I do have for him and if anyone has questions, I will be answer them to the best of my ability without revealing confidences out of respect for his privacy. My e-mail address again is: LADYTINARENEE@AOL.COM. I am sorry, again, for off topic subject. Thank you so much for your time. Tina Rene'e Bourassa
Does anyone on this list have access to the following publication? If so I'd appreciate a lookup for the location of Bahamas/Bahamian records in Great Britain. "The British Overseas-A Guide to the Records in the UK of Overseas Births, Baptism, Marriages etc." Thanking you in advance, Yolanda Deale Rotondo
Dante Thanks for the information about the "wall" of the Frederick Lutheran Church in St. Thomas. I had the information already, but thank you anyway. The printer you mentioned is probably the brother to my Petrine Johanne Walloe. I have an August Anton Walloe, born 05-09-1840, dead 16-01-1895. There should be a kind of plaque in the church in Charlotte Amalie. 18.10.1873 kind of licens (Borgerbrev) to print books. I dont know which plantation on St. Thomas August Holm was associated with -- is there a kind of register with that information ? Hilda, Good to hear from you again, and thank you. Access to information is a wonderful thing. I have been loosing my sight going through the 1930 Census, and both of my aunts and mother list their mother(grandmother) as being born in St. Kitts, go figure, but her brother in the same census was born in Stacia. her sisters in St. Croix were born in Stacia. So, I have finally embarrassed my oldest sister who is on the island, into going to the church and get copies of the marriage records and christening papers so we can be sure. I could say that all these years I have been wasting my time looking on the wrong island, and the information was right at hand, but I found so many other relatives in those years that it was worth it. I'll keep you posted Ann >From: HANSENAICHJAY@aol.com >Reply-To: CARIBBEAN-L@rootsweb.com >To: CARIBBEAN-L@rootsweb.com >Subject: Re: Searching for information about Holm, Lillienskjold, >Kaas,Duurloo,Walløe >Date: Fri, 21 Mar 2003 05:10:25 EST > >Hi Ann, >I have a Anna Rebecca Holm who marries Gideon Godet Heyliger, 12 February >1853 in St Eustatius. Judy, Go to Canada411 and you will get a listing of all the Gills in Newfoundland. I hope someone can connect to this family, or possibly do a look-up. THOMAS STANLEY GILL married and raised a family in Newfoundland, although I don`t know exactly when he came to Newfoundland. I am not sure whether his parents emigrated directly from the UK, or whether they were of the Newfoundland GILLs, who were actively engaged in the West Indies trade. I sincerely hope someone can help me answer this question - i.e., the parents` names, where they came from, and possibly any other children they may have had. This list is a great help for anyone like me doing genealogy from such a distance. Thanks so much.
