Recent information has revealed that my husband's g grandfather (Augustus Wilkin) was the father of three children born between the years of 1842 - 1848 in Montserrat. The mother was Margaret BURNES ( I suspect there may have been other spelling variations of this surname) and I would be so grateful if someone might do a lookup for this name anywhere in the West Indies. With thanks, Alannah

Veronique... I am located in Toronto, Ontario, CANADA, and I am a subscriber to the Caribbean-L List. I am a webmaster, and one of my clients owns a Bed & Breakfast (very small hotel) with your name Carbonnel - see http://www.carbonnelbedandbreakfast.com/index.html I have sent an email to the current owner, but I am not sure if she is part of the Carbonnel family or if she bought the property. Re Lowango, We must keep in mind the time of the writing. My posting was from documents written in the 1700.s by the Dutch. I don't know if that was the native name of the area in question, and the spelling is Dutch, however, there is a cay off St. Thomas, Virgin Islands by the same name, and spelled Lowango, and at times I have seen it spelled Lovango. And as we know the Dutch settled that area. Sometimes one has to go back to old slave-trade maps to find the places entioned. Ann "Sharing the information."
