    3. Maureen, Donald was your dad and your uncle you didn't name? SNIP: ...the McIntyre's and their businesses in Gouyave is correct and one of Mum's > brothers also Donald did live at Hillview Question: Are you familiar with: "Famuel Emanuel Roberts (M-married) Cecilia Patrice-Roberts" "Patrice" was her surname. Famuel Roberts was from Trinidad and had children in Grenada (in ond out of his marriage) I say that because Cecilia may not be the name you are aquainted with. THis Roberts could have gone to Trinidad and returned to Grenada. Two of the sons names (that I can get right now) who are up in years now are Conrad and Hycenth Roberts from Grenada. If any of this makes sense I will continue Yvonne -----Original Message----- From: [email protected] [mailto:[email protected]] On Behalf Of Emanuel, Yvonne E CIV USA AMC Sent: Friday, November 09, 2007 12:02 PM To: [email protected] Subject: RE: McIntyre family Maureen, Ohh ok I see where a Donald Roberts lived at Hillview... 3. I agree with you though I think Burke's reputation was for greater reliability than anyone else in his field. What would you suggest to be the best way to find an i.d. for our missing ancestress? Anecdotal: In my (didn't leave the British Isles) ancestry is an 18C marriage that Burke LG gives as between Matthew Peters and a daughter of George Young of Dublin. I suspect that by 100 years later her name had been forgotten but there some sort of a document still existed that dealt with an arrangement between e.g. George Young and Matthew Peters and referred to the marriage of the daughter without naming her, or a painting captioned eg "Miss Young, daughter of George Young Esquire"). I have now found (from her son's will) that at the time of the marriage she was a widow with child(ren), but that would not mean her given name should be suppressed. (Her grandchildren were named ENGLISH, and related to Epaphroditus YOUNG, all in Cootehill, Cavan, Ireland. I still don't know her given name, or the name of her first husband.)

    3. Great research and thought provoking questions at the end. We must remember those whose shoulders we presently stand on. For without them and their sacrifices where would we be? Ancestors are not simply our past but our HERE AND NOW. We are ancestors in the making so teach your children well and they will keep our names on their tounge and lift us up in prayer. The sites you included have a wealth of information too. Thanks for sharing. 3. I meant to "re-label" my post on 04/11/2007 from "Re: Spam:*****, Matthew Hatchett" to "Hodges in the Virgin Islands" K O Kupperman mentions the transportation of the first Africans to Old Providence in "Providence Island, 1630-1641: the Other Puritan Colony" (1993). The white Puritans and indentured servants.felt threatened by the arrival of several hundred slaves, so many of them were transferred to St Kitts which had a much lower proportion of Africans until sugar was introduced from Brazil about 1640. The Spanish captured the island after it became a base for privateers. I had two or three requests off-list some time ago for a list of the original English settlers on St Kitts in 1623 (1624 by modern reckoning) but my notes were in store. Like Thomas Warner, his wife and son, they were all from Framlingham, Suffolk, England and were mostly merchants: "William Tasted, John Rhodes, Robert Binns, William Bentfield, Serjeant Jones, Mr Ware, William Ryle, Rowland Grasscock, Mr Bond, Mr Langley, Mr Weaver, Serjeant Aplon and a sailor and a cook (both unnamed)" Warner used the first permanent English settlement in the West Indies as a base to seed many of their subsequent colonies.. 1. Re: MONTSERRAT families WYKE IRISH
    2. David Daniell
    3. Ernest, I was concerned to see that you believe William Irish and Sarah Wyke had no children particularly as I understand you are very knowledgeable on these matters for that time and place. Here is an excerpt in which the author agrees with us and he seems to be working from original documentation. [from Sugar And Slavery: An Economic History of the British West Indies, 1623-1775 by Richard B Sheridan] "While there are no grounds for asserting that for every success there was a failure, not a few of the latter are recorded in the archives of Montserrat and England. That not all failures can be attributed to absenteeism is revealed by a letter concerning William Irish, whose father’s plantation ranked tenth in the 1729 census. His stepfather, Colonel Samuel Martin of Antigua, could not understand how he contrived to be always in much debt, ‘for I have been told, that when he had not company, he lived like a Beggar to Windward; but he kept house for his cousins at Wyke’s, which was the Sluice of all ye produce of both his Estates’. Martin L B vol.2, f.282;Lrc to Samuel Martin, Jr 22 Sept. 1767" This William Irish named his son Samuel Martin Irish (for some reason) and his daughter Sarah (from whom I descend). I guess by 1767 this William was a widower and the children will have been at school in England. I have no record of the name of their mother. That is one of my principal objectives in this exercise. There may have been good reason to suppress it in Burke's LG. The estates are said to have been The Hermitage and The Riverhead Montserrrat. I'm very keen to know why you believe Col Martin, (so Sheridan) Burke and my family are mistaken. You could be correct. With kind regards, David PS Do you know of a Leonard Martin born to Colonel Samuel Martin and Frances Yeamans about 1715? (admitted to Westminster 1727 aged 12, later assistant-Solicitor to The Treasury during Sir Robert Walpole's government, specifically in 1744) On Nov 4, 2007, at 2:53 AM, Ernest M. 3. Hi Yvonne, I saw your note to Cathy regarding help with research in the West Indies. I wonder if you can help me or rather my wife? Her mother (Marjorie Verna McIntyre) died a year ago at the ripe old age of 99. She was born in Gouyave in Grenada in 1907. Her father, Donald Allan McIntyre, died in Gouyave in 1912, and his obituary said he was 67. So we guess he was born about 1845. We have never been able to find out where he was born. Was he born in Grenada or did he arrive from Scotland or elsewhere? I know there are McIntyres in Canada who descend from Scotland, but we have never found a link. Any chance you or others might be able to help? Thanks in advance, Alan Wilson.(London, England)
