    1. Slave compensation lists - Barbados
    2. Ernest M. Wiltshire
    3. Hello everyone. Am back from walkabout, (a bit footsore). Several years ago, my friend Prof. Richard Lobdell (Economic historian & Vice Provost of the University of Manitoba) transcribed the lists of compensation payments made to slave owners in all British colonies at the time of abolition. I worked with him to organise the Barbados entries and identify the persons named in the Barbados lists, establishing their family relationships. Each claimant is named individually, and it is not always obvious that the claimants are in fact closely related, so that payments seemingly made to individuals are in fact going to several members of the same family. [That info is not included on the website below] Geraldine Lane, genealogist & author of "Tracing Ancestors in Barbados" has now taken our transcripts, checked them against the original lists, corrected any transcription errors etc., and has posted them on a website (see below). This is only for Barbados. It is possible that at a later date we might tackle at least some of the lists for other colonies, but that would require a mammoth effort so it remains to be seen if it will be possible. Any volunteers? In the meantime you can find the Barbados lists, covering 5,349 individual claims by slave owners, with an excellent introduction by Guy Grannum of the PRO (now the British National Archives) at: http://compensations.plantations.bb/ Ernest M. 1. Insolvency in Jamaica & London Gazettes
    2. Howard Mais
    3. Hi Listers I have been researching my Mais ancestors in the London Gazette and found a series of Jamaican Government Notices relating to Henry Mais (1805 to c1888) stating that money deposited in the Treasury on account of his insolvent estate was to be claimed by the Government. I wondered if anyone could please advise me where any records declaring his estate to be insolvent would be archived. The Notices appeared in 1894/5 and contained the names of several other Jamaicans whose estates were insolvent and who other listers may be interested in. Jamaican researchers of landholders might also be interested to know that there were a number of Government Notices during the 1870/1880s listing many plantations, estates, etc, for which land taxes were in arrears. The website is at:- www.gazettes-online.co.uk Cheers Howard Mais England

    3. Family, I spoke with Layne Lamothe/ LaMotte's brother in Grenada, Alban LaMothe. They are decendants of Peter LaMotte who inherited the property on Depradine St, Goyuave, Grenada. (sp) He stated that he knew Major Bro. and Cisley who lived in Douglaston. I am going to re-write my notes and I am not going to include all of the siblings here. Please chime in if any of this looks familiar 1.Pierre Frederick LaMotte:(LWT 1892) 2.Peter LaMotte:(Not sure if this generational level "Peter" is the same as the one I listed below). 3.Peter and Elizabeth (Wife) LaMotte(aka, Mamma) I think they lived in St Patrick, Mt Rodney? Note: ( After Peter died young, Mamma married a Mr.Isaac and moved to Sertez,Grenada and had( possibly 5 more Children. Mamma died in 1991) The children of Peter and Mamma were:(note sure who changed the name) 4a.Peter Dunbar Michael LaMothe( he has about 30 children I'm told)I have the name of a few. 4b.George LaMothe ( son George Jr) 4c.Agnes:(son Osmor Gawl LaMotte, Daughter Floranna( may be the grandaughter) Now, Peter(4a.) and Eurita Mitchell are the parents of Alban Mitchell-LaMotte(b) 22 March,1942, he worked in the public works Dept in St Johns. I met his brother Layne LaMotte through a cuzin (Alvin LaMotte). Alvin's church visited Layne's church and they began to chat...Alvin phoned and said Cuzin Choli (me), I think I found a cuzin'. I kept in contact with Layne because he said his father was Peter LaMotte( I knew he was family but couldn't verify it.) for over a year until I could properly connect the dots by reading the LWT of Pierre LaMotte-1892 (that Cuzin' Daphne found) over the phone to him. Our ancestors work HARD! I am posting all of this in hopes that someone will read this and provide additional information because I have a few lost sock questions to match-up. I awould love to connect a few dots before the years end ( I know,I know). Yvonne Emanuel aka Cuzin' Choli

    3. Good morning Maureen, Okay, I am getting the generational levels straight. SNIP: My need to know is: where my grandfather (Donald Allan McIntyre) was > born >> and who were his parents? Soooo.... Donald Allan McIntyre to Eloisa Jane Roberts are the grandparents and Donald is the namesake of his father and your uncle. whew! I don't have that information off hand. (St George Anglican Church records) LDS FHL156330 # that Daphne provided may prove to be useful. Check the Catholic Church also. In addition the phone #'s that I annotated (in an earlier email) in Grenada may provide documents on your grand parents ORRRRRR documents on your parents which might reflect information on your grandparents. Yes, I would think that your mother and uncles BC info will list the country of origin for the parents (Donald Allan McIntyre to Eloisa Jane Roberts) Try the BC # I sent. also contact the Church # that I sent. At the time I made my calls a Ms. McIntyre was in the records dept. Hmm you say you didn't have much luck with the films... which Parish where you looking in? The DeLaMotte/LaMotte/LaMothe/Belfon/Alexander surnames are our area of research. I visited Grenada for the first time last year for the funeral of my cousin Fedora Grant. As a matter of fact I was able to connect with a few 'cuzin's' that I had been trying to contact for years. I thank God I met Cisley and her daughter Edrice before Cisley pasted away. Maureen, now tell me... Eloisa Jane Roberts- your grandmother, did she have other Roberts family in Grenada or Trinidad?. I ask because of the "Roberts" information I posted last week. The weather here in NJ is mild also. we are finally getting much needed rain. I am looking forward to the return of the sun some time this afternoon. I have a photo of my oldest living relative on my desk as we speak... Fedora's mother, my aunt - Muriel LaMotte she is 94 years young and also lives in Canada. -----Original Message----- From: [email protected] [mailto:[email protected]] On Behalf Of Alan Wilson Sent: Saturday, November 10, 2007 9:13 AM To: [email protected] Subject: Re: McIntyre family Hi Yvonne, Donald McIntyre was my uncle, my Mum's brother.
