    3. Thanks Hester - you are a star! I will contact him! Hi Rita - I've searched around on the LDS site for years for various family members! Yes, sometimes they are great, but not for St Eustatius, nor for my other family in the Caribbean either! Lots of entries for Barbados - pity that is not where my people were... I have been able to locate someone who is researching my families in the Caribbean, and am in the process of exchanging some information. Marie

    3. Marie, Great to hear that you are making contact and progress. Looks like your ancestors are working hard here. I am curious to know what offices, links or POCs (point of contact) you have regarding the Moores in Barbados. my maternal grand parent s are Pollards and Moores from Barbados and I still trying to garner sources of data for them. I saw that there were Moores in Panama (1930 Panama Canal cencus) I found my grandmother Rosaline Moore Pollard- LaMotte and my grandfather, Louis LaMotte jr. The good thing about this doucment is that it requires the birthplace of the person on the entryline and the birthplace of their parents.. . so with the adults it confirmed what I already knew of the gradparents birth locations. My GM Rosaline was the youngest of 5. All were born in Barbados excet her. She was born in St Lucia. Any document resources regading Barbados would be useful. Let us know when you have the family reunion. 3. National Archives and Records Management Unit , I received the following correspondence regarding the BVI National Archives News Salute of Virgin Islander Captains and Sailors. The correspondence makes reference to a Scatliffe. My great grandfather, John Joseph Scatliffe, born in 1856, was said to be a ship Captain . . . I learned of him when I found his marriage record, of 1899, in the Methodist church in Road Town (married Amanda Elnora Hodge) in 2006. I would like to know how I might gain access to a copy of the "National Archives News" article to verify if this is the same person documented. "Captain John's" father was Simon Scatliffe, who ³in 1872 . . . bought the [Mount Healthy Windmill] mill from Augustus McClevity. After Scatliffe's death in 1881, [John] Dawson bought the other 50 percent share and became the sole owner . . .² Simon Scatliffe, is my Great, Great Grandfather. I am trying to gain information and insight into their lives in the BVI . . . 3. Hello everybody! I am a new member on this list, and am researching my Moore and Heyliger families of the West Indies. I did find an earlier thread here, dated 1999, which has given me some wonderful information. I am aware from that, that William Moore married Adriana Heyliger in 1779, in St Eustatius where he had a plantation. I am particularly interested to know anything at all about their son Peter, who married Marie Francoise Adele Serane (aka Adele Serane) in 1815. Also anything at all about the Moores going further back - eg, I think that they were from Drogheda and maybe related to the Earls of Drogheda. I would like to confirm this, and to find when they arrived from Ireland. Thanks! Marie

    2. My g-grandmother, b. 1856 in St. Croix, was named Matilda Moore Gray after one Matilda Moore. I'm out of town right now and do not have my files, but Carol Whitaker at the St. Croix Landmarks Society once sent me a good bit of material on the Moores. Also, just something I happened to cut and paste: Chancery - Confirmed Wills 1800-1848 (Only wills from the West Indies were noted) Vol. 42, 1820B, FHL Microfilm 0394911, 255 Elliott Moore, [Plantation Grange] St. Croix 15 Dec 1819. Is everyone regularly checking Google books? They have the most wonderful old books online now! For Moore, I found: Journal of Rachel Wilson Moore Kept During a Tour to the West Indies...pub. 1867. There's also a Capt. Walter Moore (1723) in the 1827 Chronological History of the West Indies, Vol. II, p. 23 (a Col. Moore arriving in Jamaica), p. 232, etc. There are several mentions of Heyligers (including a free black woman) in Slave Society in the Danish West Indies... which also is online. My research is in Jamaica and I have built up a good collection of indefinite films on Jamaica at the Brampton, Ontario FHC and this is used by quite a few Jamaican researchers. Unfortunately we are experiencing long delays in receiving microfilms from Salt Lake City these days, as there seems to be quite a backlog in copying films to send out.
