Scott Buie--Do you have further info about family of HUGH BROWN and MARY BUIE who may have been my fifth great grandparents, parents of MARY BROWN MCMILLAN, wife of JAMES MCMILLAN SR? ABOUT 1846-47 two of my great great grandfathers--DOUGALD ALEXANDER MCMILLAN (b. 1823) and his wife ANN ³NANCY² BAIN, and Dougald¹s first cousin, DAVID DOUGALD MCMILLAN and his wife MARY MARGARETE BAIN--moved to Gadsden County, FL, from Cumberland Co., NC. Another who made the move was Dougald¹s brother, JAMES W. MCMILLAN. Dougald and James W. were sons of JAMES MCMILLAN JR., and his wife, CATHERINE MUNN. (This is from info handed down in the Dougald McMillan line.) However, I am not absolutely certain which of James Jr.¹s sons was the father of David, but think it was Daniel since he was married to Mary Munn (family lore: Dougald and David were ³double² first cousins). A number of North Carolina Buies were pioneers of Gadsden Co., FL, arriving in the early 1820s, including Archibald Buie, Sr. It is possible that James Sr.¹s father was named DOUGALD MCMILLAN, an adult male living in Cumberland County as early as 1753. This Dougald McMillan received a 300-acre land grant in 1753, later sold it to HUGH BROWN, received another grant of 150 acres on Locks Creek in 1756. Effects of Dougald's estate were sold in 1761. His wife may have remarried a NEIL McNEIL (or McNUIER). I have no info on the Brown family and little on the Bains and Munns, but would love to hear from anyone who has. ----------
