Hello listers, I am new to this list and hoping to find my McNeil origins in the new world. Any chance someone might be researching the McNeil name from Buteshire, Scotland; particularly this family? John McNeil m. Isobel McGilchrist in 1791 in Rothesay, son Robert b. 1791. I suspect Robert's parents came over to North America as well as I cannot find any record of them in Bute after Robert's birth. Robert appears in Nova Scotia in 1821 jointly purchasing land with a fellow named James McTyre. Robert's parents seem to have left Bute but can't find them in NS. Is it possible that John and Isobel settled elsewhere and son Robert left them in the US for Nova Scotia?
