Royal Governor Gabriel Johnston of NC 1733-1752. This article appeared in the Fayetteville Observer Times. Johnston was a lowland Scot who settled near Elizabethtown, NC. He built what was known locally as Palace Brompton or Castle Brompton. Its remains are still evident.
