My take on bogus shipwreck stories is that they were started in a given family to disguise another fact. Keeping in mind that shipwrecks were quite common during the 1700's and early 1800's, an individual in a family might go to an "obvious" solution to a family story that is embarrassing. This is just a general response, and I too would like others to ring in on this. Jim
