I have just recently purchased a book on Richmond County and there is a good bit in it on the MCKAY family. I do not have an address for the man handling the book because he has just recently moved, but I do have a phone number. His name is Sam Yates, ph. # 1-910-895-2728. The book also has a list of all the different people who have contributed to the MCKAY material (names & addresses). It also has a good bit on Flora Watson's family .It covers a lot of early famlies of the area up to the present. I am also a very fortunate owner (inherited) of a signed copy of THE STORY OF FAYETTEVILLE by John A. Oates. It really covers a lot of the early Cape Fear area. On page 20, it mentions that .."The Scot's Magazine, in September, 1769, records that the ship Molly had recently sailed from Islay filled with passengers for North Carolina, and that this was the third emigration from that county within six years. The same journal in a later issue tells us that between April and July, 1770, fifty-four vessels sailed from the Western Isles laden with 1,200 Highlanders, all bound for North Carolina." I have clilmbed aboard some of the replicas of the early ships and there really wasn't that much space, so an average of 22 people a ship was probably a full ship. I'm still looking for Commodore John Macleod's ship. -----Original Message----- From: Linda Burgess <lpsburg@avana.net> To: CAPE-FEAR-SCOTS-L@rootsweb.com <CAPE-FEAR-SCOTS-L@rootsweb.com> Date: Friday, June 25, 1999 3:33 PM Subject: MCKAY line!! >Does anyone have info on the origins of Archibald MCKAY? >He is suppose to have died fater 1804 in Richmond Co.,N.C.; married Nancy. >I am related to him and his son, also Archibald MCKAY b:abt1784;d:bef 1860 >in Richmond Co.,N.C. >He married Flora Watson. >Would love to find some living relatives!! >Thanks, Linda > > >
